Editors say, "We are seeking poems from women who proudly celebrate their own nastiness and that of other women who have served as nasty role models. Recommended free contest gives $10,000 advance and publication in print and e-book editions for a manuscript of literary prose, 45,000 words minimum for fiction and 25,000 words minimum for nonfiction, by a first-generation US immigrant who has not previously published a book in that particular genre with a US publisher. "First-generation" can refer either to people born in another country who relocated to the US, or to American-born residents whose parents were born elsewhere. Prize alternates annually between fiction (odd-numbered years) and nonfiction (even-numbered years). Fiction submissions can take the form of a novel or a collection of short stories; nonfiction submissions can take the form of a memoir, a collection of essays, or a book-length work of narrative nonfiction. Candidates are asked to submit a CV and a one-page cover letter as the first pages of their manuscript. Poems will be posted daily from November 1-December 1. Submit up to 10 poems/pages via online form. Read examples on website first to get a sense of their aesthetic. Editors say, "Submissions by poets living with HIV are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED but poets do not have to be HIV-positive to submit.
