Yes, I‘ve changed my opinion on since authoring a skeptical memo 18 years ago. Now, I want to use my powers for good and find ways to make it a nonpartisan issue. (Look how the has shifted after hearing the concerns of their coastal constituency.)

This is £39 billion on top of the £87 billion for HS2. The question is not whether we want high speed rail but what this means we can’t spend £126 billion on as a result. It could mean we don’t have the money to decarbonise the U.K. in line with net zero

This is a big deal as do ground breaking analysis of financial vulnerability to climate impacts at an asset level. A lot of people are going to lose money when incorporates their work into its ratings. Time to change now before the market does.

For those of us interested in how politics works, the fact that all Special Advisers now report to a No10 Special Adviser, rather than their own Minister, is a subtle but significant change. Imagine Damian McBride reporting to Alastair Campbell rather than Gordon Brown.

A great read but overstates disruption to some workers - there aren’t that many coal miners globally - while underestimating changes in car industries, agriculture etc . Also most fossil assets & reserves are state owned so change must address all power not just private capital.

20 years of climate activism, policy & tech support have completely disrupted the power sector. No-one asked GE’s permission to crash its share price - the EU subsidised renewables & GE made the wrong bet. Big companies are not invincible & some revolutions happen quietly.
