tiny owl knits

this is a simple little project! sometimes i hesitate to put out things that are too basic and then i end up getting too complicated… so this was my very first KISS project.  (keep it super simple!)  and why not? i decided to make just the very thing i wanted, which was a rustic, cozy feather soft cowl to keep ALL breezes at bay this winter. the result? my little new best friend twig here.

the brown cabled part is knitted flat like a scarf and then seamed into a circle. easy.
then the fluffy lining part is knitted the same exact way, a simple scarf! easy!
then you pop the lining inside and make a sloppy whipstitch all around the edges. easy!!!

i had worked forever on trying to come up with a way to make WINGS! i wanted them to be the easiest things ever. i didnt want to cut up wire hangers and mess with pokey and bendy and icky bits. the directions for these should be the easiest things you can imagine! the straps are adjustable and the best thing is? you can DRIVE wearing them.  ive driven around in my green jeep bunches of times with my wings on and i barely even noticed them. now thats my idea of a wing! ruby likes them too 🙂

yes i am that person who puts faerie wings on my cat. i swear when i put them on her she started modelling and purring! she said they are very light and comfortable. what a little ham. ..!!!. omhoot i should make wings for hagrid. (my little hamster.) hehe i already wanted to make him a harry potter weasley sweater with a little H on it. he wiggles too much to wear clothes i think but i could always just hang it in his wardrobe for show 🙂

Ps. eeee wanderwillows! these are one of the very first things i ever designed. i made them in about 2004 and have worn them outrageously. i never put the pattern up cause i kinda forgot about them when i moved.. then looking through my cedar chest i was like .. OH! sgt peppers puffy legwarmers! (that was the original name i had for them)

i made a new pair (cause i had a few old pairs and they were looking sort of velveteen rabbity.) i didnt include the tassels on the new ones because erika knights fuzzy wool top was more than enough puff for me. (you can see the originals resting on the pink pillow.. for those i held plymouth encore double for the leggie and GGH amelie for the fuzzbit)

Ps. I originally made this collar in pink and blue (pictured in the mosaic on the left.) But then I put the beekeeper’s quilt pattern and I needed a little flower design.  I couldn’t help it! I took the one from this poor little collar….. cheeky little faery!  Needless to say the collar got scrapped for a while until some new flowers popped into my head.  I think the new ones are kind of art-deco wouldn’t you say? .. If you like the original flower design pictured on the pink & blue collar.. the chart is in the beekeeper’s quilt pattern 🙂

The Dragon watcher’s hood will keep you warm while you wait for dragons to appear.  It is also fitted with 3 tiny bells in case the dragons you meet get feisty. Dragons love music so when you encounter one, just ring the tassel bells to relax them.  Once dragons are relaxed, they’ll protect you forever and always toast your marshmallows to perfection.

Ps. It’s true was having a major morgana le fay when i made this hood! I was dreaming about Merlin and thought we needed a loooong pixie hood with looooong tassels for them to share. It’s time they got along isn’t it? For some reason I missed the show Merlin when I was living in the UK… but when I got back to America I gobbled it all up in a few weeks… I just loved it for the costumes and set design.  So merlantic! (thats merlin and romantic put together) …… as the world should be, right?
