INFOCUS Editing Workshop
Tickets are $295 for INFOCUS Members / $325 for Non-Members

Every photographer waits for that magical moment when a magazine or a gallery says-- "We'd like to show five of your photographs." It's often at that point that the photographer recognizes the importance of editing.

This two-day workshop is about editing and how to find the narrative in your work. Editing is the process by which we give meaning to our work, and the participants will learn how to recognize their own signature in their photographs, and how to sequence and lay them out to achieve a finished product, whether book, exhibit, or film.

Presented in partnership with Hospice of the Valley, each session focuses on one work of art in the Museum, blending guided mindfulness practice with a deeper reflection of an individual artwork. Artist Talk: Kate Breakey
Tickets are $5 / FREE for PAM/INFOCUS Members

Hand-coloring is a process that came into use in the early 1800s in an attempt to create more realistic images from black-and-white photographs. Since the later part of the 1900s, a resurgence in the process of hand-coloring has been seen in the work of artist-photographers, such as Kate Breakey.

Kate Breakey is internationally known for her large-scale, richly hand-colored photographs, including her acclaimed series, Small Deaths, published in 2001 by University of Texas Press. During the talk, she will discuss and present examples of her hand-colored photographs.

A four day workshop, Hand-Coloring Photographs with Kate Breakey, will be held at Art Intersection March 15-18, 2018.

Artist Talk: Valeska Soares
Tickets are $5 / FREE for Members

Exploring themes of memory, time, and the sensorial, Valeska Soares reconfigures the esthetic of minimalism into interactive installations and sensory experiences. Her work demonstrates a fascination with space and time, as well as what occurs beyond their perceived limits. Directly engaging visitors' subjectivities, she emphasizes personal experience and also universal knowledge, and explores how each of these affects the other. Assemblages of book pages, covers, and bindings weave meanings between different texts that viewers connect by association. Soares also renders experiential qualities in her work through suspended mirrors, perishing flowers, and vessels of perfume and liquor that slowly evaporate over the coarse of the exhibition, inviting visitors' active engagement.

Valeska Soares: Any Moment Now is a landmark partnership with the Santa Barbara Museum of Art as part of the Getty Foundation's 2017 Pacific Standard Time: Los Angeles/Latin America initiative. Don't miss this opportunity to hear Soares herself speak to our museum community about this singular exhibition project.

The Logan Lecture Series is generously sponsored by Vicki and Kent Logan.
