About the Movie
Director Antoine Fuqua brings his modern vision to a classic story in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven. With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople, led by Emma Cullen (Haley Bennett), employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: If the sight of Denzel Washington, guns blazing and saddled up for his first western, doesn't get your pulse racing, read elsewhere.
Rotten: Inevitably, the movie spends a lot of time getting ready for the climactic showdown. But it's so chaotic and protracted as to lose much of its punch.
Fresh: If body count is what you go to Westerns for, by all means drift into this one's corral.
Fresh: You could do worse than putting it all in the capable hands of Denzel Washington, with some help from Chris Pratt.

Not nearly good enough
Boy did I want to love this movie. If you're going to remake one of the best westerns ever, which itself is a remake of one of the best movies ever, you ought to do it right. It seems clear to me that the makers of this movie just didn’t get the original films. Of course a remake does not have to be a duplication, but the best parts - the heart and soul - should be there, and in this movie they were not. Beyond that, I just didn't belive in a single character. What do I remember? Something about a gatling gun. Well, I own the movie now, so there's ample opportunity to watch it again. Yippee.
More Than I Expected..
Was not expecting to like this movie but it was my dad's choice that day for the movie theatre, so we saw this. There was action, jokes, amazing characters and a great script. I was laughing at some scenes, biting my nails at others and cheering for the characters at other points. I am normally a rom-com/Disney kind of girl or something with a lot of car chases but this I enjoyed and would recomend to anyone.

Wow
As the weeks and months and years roll by we lose a little bit more of what used to be.
Before cgi, there was practical fx. Character development, writing, casting, and location. You handed that to a director and cinematographer and said make a movie.
Now maybe it's because I'm 40 and don't think like a millennial but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Will it win an oscar? No... it doesn't have to, I was captivated by it. It was an old timey western. I love Chris Pratt and Denzel, and I actually welled up at the end, the voice over with those 4 tombstones in the sunset, there was something poetic about it. I say bravo, and thank you for such an entertaining movie
