Boot scoot across Texas with flair after J’s dance workshop

Published
A Boot Scootin’ Line and C&W Dance Workshop begins Thursday, Aug. 2, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center. In this workshop, students will learn popular line dances, such as Boot Scootin’ Boogie (aka Elvira/Four Corners) and Cupid Shuffle, as well as other line dances.

Dancers will be given step-by-step instruction, and then dance to the appropriate music. The second half of the workshop, participants will learn basics for the two-step with a few moves they can add so they will be ready to step out at their next dance adventure.

“No previous experience is required, and no partner is required, but, bring your significant other or friend to two-step with. Wear soft-soled shoes or boots that won’t stick to the floor (flat, smooth bottom with minimal tread). No flip flops, and closed-toe shoes are best,” said Michelle Schroeder.

Schroeder is an instructor with more than 30 years of teaching various forms of dance to students of all ages. Her love of dance began at age 3, when she took lessons at a local studio. This passion followed her to Sam Houston State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in teaching dance, and finished with a Master of Arts in dance performance, instruction and choreography.

Schroeder’s full-time career has been teaching dance in public, fine arts schools throughout Houston. In addition, she has taught social dance styles like two-step, polka, Western waltz and jitterbug (East Coast swing) to adults for recreation, weddings and special events. Her current love for line dancing led to teaching classes throughout the Houston area, as well as workshops for various ages and events.

“Join Michelle and other dancers and learn some fun line dances and two-step to get ready to dance at a future wedding reception or party you might be attending, at the honky-tonk or just for fun and exercise,” said Maxine Silberstein, Tapestry of Dance program coordinator.
