SEEING RED! Every year following the rainy season, red Anemones begin to bloom across Israel, carpeting the ground in brilliant shades of scarlet. Also known as the Poppy Anemone, this species of plants is one of the most beautiful flowers in the entire Mediterranean region and Israel's national flower.
To celebrate this magical spectacle, Israelis come out in droves to participate in the annual Darom Adom Festival, which features a wide array of family-orientated activities in nature. The festival actually encourages people to quite literally frolic through the fields and enjoy the Anemones and the other wildflowers blooming during this season, such as Iris, Cyclamen, and Common Narcissus (without picking them, of course).
In the coming weeks SPNI will be offering a variety of bloom-themed tours across Israel, so stay tuned for more information.
