Actually the thrust vectoring is useless. Indeed ands tried it at Red Flag with their SUckass-30s and they got beat so badly they refused to finish the exercise. The Clanker-E is like the rest of the Clanker family unadvanced poorly designed poorly built and poorly flown.

They dusted them with counter measure flairs while making a pass in front of their nose. It's a way for them to say hey look at me. I am here and I see you and I am not playing... Now leave.

It's a common intercept tactic. I would guess that there was a Raptor standing off behind them ready to go hot if they started maneuvering on the first one.

Good question. Wonder if there were TIC in the area? That SU-35 being up is interesting as well. If they are packaging their strike aircraft with top cover from a monster of an air superiority fighter thats concerning... (ISIS does not have an airforce....)

Not much of a fight for the F-22 even against an SU-35. But the Sukhoi ain't there to pick a fight. Think about why the Russians might want to get as close as possible to an F-22 by goading them into a merge.

I'm sure the USAF/USN would love an up close look at the PAK-FA themselves. But that now looks to be at least another decade off, if ever.
