Thanks for this. For the past years I've joined WOW and have seen demonstrations, but nothing like this (wasn't there this time). It's clear the Haredim are emboldened by their indulgence by the Israeli government, and seems US Jewry can't change Netanyahu’s course on this issue.

Most Israelis support religious pluralism in Israel and hate the monopoly of the chief rabbinate, but they are either indifferent or oblivious to the pain of non-orthodox Jews because most liberal Israelis are just non-practicing ethnic-secular Jews, many of whom regard the

Western Wall as an important national/historic site, but are not attached to it in any spiritual way. And some vote Likud knowing that it will hurt religious pluralism in Israel because of the automatic alliance with the ultra-Orthodox because they care more about security and

trust Netanyahu. Want to influence religious pluralism in Israel? If 18000 Jews (and others) will protest during @netanyahu's speech at @AIPAC in 2 weeks by for example shouting together "women of the wall" or "all Jews are equal" it will leave an indelible impression on Israelis

Unceremoniously booted out of the new, intersectional Democratic Party, isn't this just a panicked, liberal Jewish proposal to bring the death march that is legacy American Judaism to Israelis who largely prefer to marry other Jews?

Check out the space allotted for women's groups on ordinary days. Not a soul there. Perhaps WoW would be taken more seriously if they also prayed when the cameras aren't flashing.

That some 98% of Jewish Israeli males born in last decade are circumcised DESPITE the fact that the ritual is not under Rabbinate is a good argument against ongoing Orthodox Rabbinate control of life cycles.

In other words, lack of religious coercion does not mean decreased religious observance. (This is all aside from the fact that the assertion that Israel's Rabbinate controls circumcisions is factually unfounded, and requires correction.)
