חמי האהוב, שמואל בן ארצי ז״ל, היה משורר, מורה לתנ״ך, סופר ומחנך, שעלה ארצה בשנת 1933. משפחתו, משפחת הון (hun), נשארה בעיירת הולדתו בילגוריי אשר בפולין. עד לפרוץ המלחמה הוא הקפיד לשלוח מחצית מהכסף שהרוויח בעבודתו בפרדס כדי לפרנס את בני משפחתו.

אביו שלח לו לישראל את התמונה המצורפת, בה מופיעים חלק מאחיו. זו התמונה היחידה שנותרה לנו ממשפחתו, שכולה נספתה בשואה. עם פרוץ המלחמה, הקשר ביניהם נותק. כאן בתמונה מופיעים אחיו מאיר שנרצח בגיל 18, שמעון שנרצח בגיל 16 והאחות הקטנה פיסלה שנרצחה בהיותה בת 10. גם אחותו התאומה יהודית נרצחה בגיל 24, אחיו אריה בגיל 13, אביו משה ואשתו איטה, סבו זאב, דודים ודודות.

לעד נזכור את יהודי קהילת בילגוריי, יחד עם 6 מיליון אחינו היהודים שנרצחו על אדמת אירופה לפני 70 שנה.

My beloved father-in-law Shmuel Ben-Artzi, of blessed memory, was a poet, Bible teacher, author, and educator who made aliyah to the Land of Israel in 1933. His family, the Hun family, remained in his hometown of Biłgoraj, Poland. Until the outbreak of the war, Shmuel made sure to send his family half of the money he earned from working on an orchard in order to support them.

Shmuel's father sent him this photo in which some of Shmuel's siblings appear. This is the only photo we have left of his family, all of whom perished in the Holocaust. When the war broke out, the communication between them was cut off.

Here in this photo is Shmuel's brother Meir, who was murdered at the age of 18; his brother Shimon, who was murdered at the age of 16; and his little sister Peisale, who was murdered at the age of 10.

In addition, his twin sister Yehudit was murdered at the age of 24, his brother Arieh at the age of 13, his father Moshe and his father's wife Ita, his grandfather Ze'ev, and uncles and aunts.

We will forever remember the Jewish community of Biłgoraj, together with our six million Jewish brothers and sisters who were murdered on European soil 70 years ago.
