Precision Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

Scope of position:

  • Function as subject matter expert in precision opto mechanical engineering and precision process development
  • Lead projects in optical connectivity, including but not limited to single fiber and multi fiber connectors, physical contact and lensed connectors

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Create new precision mechanical design and process concepts for optical connectivity
  • Develop test and metrology systems for precision mechanical components
  • Develop functional prototypes to verify design concepts
Job Requirements

Travel requirements:

  • Up to 10%
  • Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
  • Standard Hours are M-F, 8-5.  Flex time is supported

Education and Experience: 

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or other related engineering or science degree
  • More than 10 years of related work experience

Required Skills:

  • In depth understanding of fiber optic connectors and cable assemblies
  • Strong understanding of precision fabrication technologies
  • Strong analytical and modeling skills using finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Precision metrology measurement
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modeling tools such as SolidWorks or ProEngineer

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of precision injection molding and 3D printing
  • Familiar with semiconductor packaging and assembly processes such as pick and place machines
  • Understanding of insertion loss tolerance in optical connectors
