There he offers some insight into Thawne’s troubled psychology and the development of the story. Check it out, you may find it interesting.

Plus, here’s a look at Barry’s daughter Nora Allen in Justice League #26, courtesy of Comicosity. The two Green Lantern kids are described as having the Allen surname as well, so it’ll be interesting to see what their deal is and how they may be related to Barry. This will presumably be another alternate future, since we were just treated to a glimpse of the potential future Dawn and Don Allen in the Flash series; perhaps history will be changed so Nora and these other kids are never born. We will have to see.

You’ve got it! You want a stunning conclusion? It’s right here! Joshua Williamson has made Eobard Thawne more menacing than ever…more sinister and yet more pathetic an individual, more dangerous and yet more lost. It’s a great conclusion to this arc, setting in motion some intriguing possibilities for future issues. I have some minor qualms, an we’ll get to those, but overall this is an outstanding conclusion to “Running Scared”. Want to know more? Follow us after the jump!

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Barry returns from the Negative Speed Force just in time to save Iris West from Thawne. But, this Barry has a very different look, and an attitude to match. The Negative Speed Force has definitely had an impact, and Thawne…loves it!

Yes, Thawne loves what he has caused Barry Allen to become. It’s all he can talk about as the two of the battle through time…literally punching each other through history. They finally reappear at the Flash Museum of the future to find that Barry has done something truly interesting to Thawne…

He stole Thawne’s speed!

Yes, Eobard Thawne is finally without the Negative Speed Force that powers him, that brought him back from a supposed death after the events of “The Button”. He goes into a full-on super-villain speech, interrupted only by…

Iris West killing him!

No, not Barry snapping his neck, not this time. And, Iris doesn’t need Barry or anyone else to save her She uses that weapon we saw last issue to take Thawne apart. Whether he ever “recovers” from that will be left to future stories, but I don’t think we’ll see this Reverse Flash again for a while. So, Thawne dead, Iris safe, everything goes back to happy times for Barry and Iris, right?

Not so fast.

There have been too many secrets hidden here, and there are even secrets that Barry hasn’t (or can’t) tell Iris yet. Iris will have none of that, not right now, and Barry ends this arc truly on his own.

NOTES: The Negative Speed Force version of the Flash is truly intimidating. We haven’t seen the last of this look, and as long as this isn’t permanent (and I don’t think it is), then I’m cool with this different appearance of the Scarlet Speedster. That’s part of the great artwork by Paul Pelletier & Howard Porter (pencils), Andrew Hennessy & Porter (inks) and Hi-Fi (colors). It’s not so much a gimmick as it is a most interesting plot device. What will happen with a Flash powered (at least in part) by Thawne’s Negative Speed Force? And, while I’m a HUGE Barry/Iris fan, I’m glad in a way that they didn’t just fall into each other’s arms right here. That would be too easy a resolution.

As for qualms, I have just two that I want to mention here. I like the overall take on Thawne in this arc, though in some respects he has become a truly pathetic character. His addled sensibilities make him somewhat of a Joker to Barry’s Batman, and the intensity of the hatred and of the insanity make him a formidable opponent. But, the “want to spend time with you” part of this leaves him a little more pathetic (I keep coming back to that word) than I’ve seen him in years past. As for my other qualm…I really like the idea that Iris didn’t need Barry or anyone else to save her. Still, I’m bothered that we’ve seen her become a murderer, even in self-defense. It is an interesting twist on the Silver-Age story where Iris dies and Barry later snaps Thawne’s neck (something alluded to in this issue – nice nod to the past). Still, I’ll remain a bit torn on that one for a while. That doesn’t keep me from really liking this arc overall, and this issue is a 9/10 to me.

Of course, that’s just my opinion – what do YOU think? Leave your comments below!

The Flash panel just wrapped up at SDCC, and there were a few new juicy details. It’s been confirmed that the Thinker is the major villain of Season Four, and he’ll be played by The 100 actor Neil Sandilands. His sidekick/assistant, known as the Mechanic, will be played by Kim Engelbrecht. Probably the most surprising cast news, however, is that famed movie actor Danny Trejo will be playing Cynthia (Gypsy)’s dad Breacher. It’s not known how much of a role he’ll have, but he’s a pretty big name for the show.

A few details here and there about the coming season:

*There will be more crossovers.
*The show isn’t doing time travel in Season Four, partly because of how complicated Savitar was.
*There are so many different versions of Harrison Wells we could potentially see. Possibly even a version of Wells who is Johnny Quick.
*The tone of the show will be lighter this season (although I believe they said that last year).
*Grant Gustin does indeed appear this season.
*Iris is leading Team Flash during Barry’s absence.
*Joe and Cecile’s relationship will get more serious.
*There’ll be more of Cisco and Cynthia.

Newsarama reports that there was an announcement of a live action Flashpoint film at the WB SDCC panel today. There are no details as of yet, but it’s a very interesting concept; readers may recall there was an animated film of the story called Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox a few years ago, and of course The Flash TV series recently did a version of it too, so it’s a bit of a surprise to learn it will be told in the DC cinematic universe as well. Thus, it’ll be interesting to see what will be done with it and why the WB movieverse wants to tell that story already. Newsarama speculates it has something to do with the rumours of Ben Affleck leaving the cinematic universe, but that’s all unverified as of now.

Are you excited for the Flashpoint film? What do you hope to see in it? Share your thoughts!

DC held its ‘Justice For All’ panel today at SDCC, and Flash writer Joshua Williamson talked a bit about his series. He spoke about the differences between Barry Allen and Eobard Thawne, and hinted about what we’ll be seeing in the upcoming Negative-Flash story arc. Both CBR and Newsarama have been covering the panel.

As reported by CBR:

The Flash then took center stage, the first question for [Joshua] Williamson was focused on his collaborator, Howard Porter. Williamson related an anecdote about meeting Porter years ago, “He drew me a sketch of Robot Hourman and it was so hard to not just fanboy out on him when we started working.”

Inman then asked about Williamson’s recent work with Eobard Thawne. “I don’t think I’ve really remade anything,” Williamson explained about his own incarnation, “My favorite Flash story of all time is “The Return of Barry Allen” which tells a lot of Thawne’s origin. Thawne’s an obsessive fan […] he looked up to Barry as if Barry was a comic book character, almost like the Barry looked up to Jay’s comics in the 60s.”

“And then Thawne met Barry and realized that he’s just a person, he’s got flaws, and he was heartbroken. It kind of drove him crazy. So that stuff was already all there.” Williamson explained, “Barry is so full of hope, he’s sometimes hard to write. With Thawne, it’s the reverse! It’s almost easier. And because he’s such a fan, he knows all of [Barry’s weakpoints.]”

Williamson went on to talk about the recent developments in The Flash and the “negative speed force” which is the speed force that powers Thawne, so when Barry goes into the Negative Speed Force, he becomes infected by it.

The screen then displayed a character design for Barry’s infected “negative Flash” state, complete with ominous black lightning and rictus skull-like face.

“I think people are going to be very excited about the stuff that’s coming up for The Flash, we’re getting to get to a lot of things fans have been asking for.” Williamson teased.

To add to CBR’s coverage about Professor Zoom, Newsarama quotes Williamson as saying “All Thawne wants to do is continue to drag Barry down to his level.” Plus, the writer said that he’s been seeding stories since Flash: Rebirth #1 which we’ll be seeing come into play soon, and that there’s at least one easter egg for the upcoming story arc in Flash #1.

And once the panel began taking questions, Williamson spoke a bit about Red Death, the dark Flash from the upcoming Flash #33. “The best villains always think they’re the hero of their own story.” It may tell us a bit about what he’ll be like.

That’s all of the Flash comics discussion from the panel. But keep watch for more Flash media coverage today!

Sadly we don’t have anyone on-site at Comic-Con International this year, but we do have the internet, so we’re following along with everyone else. Here’s a quick round-up of news from the first day and a half of the convention:

One of the attractions at this year’s LEGO booth is a life-size LEGO Flash based on the DCEU movie costume.

Delays on pre-production for the Flash movie mean that Shazam will film next, likely to release in 2019. It’s clear the Flash film won’t make its 2018 target, but there are three days left for DC/WB to make announcements — and he features prominently in new Justice league images.

The live-action Titans TV series is going into production

Young Justice: Outsiders (season 3 of the cartoon) showed off new character designs including Bart Allen as Kid Flash.

DC unveiled the Dark Knights, the villains of Metal (though we’ve already seen the Flash counterpart The Red Death, in the Flash #33 cover).

Stay tuned for more as the weekend continues!
