Christie - Folk Rock (UK)

Christie is an English rock band that formed at the end of the 1960s. They are best remembered for their UK chart-topping hit single "Yellow River", released in 1970.

In addition to Jeff Christie (born Jeffrey Christie, 12 July 1946, Leeds, Yorkshire, England) their vocalist, bassist and songwriter; they initially included guitarist Vic Elmes and drummer Mike Blakley (born Michael Blakley, 12 January 1947, Bromley, Kent, England, brother of Alan Blakley).

Jeff Christie had initially worked with several bands, including The Outer Limits, who released "Just One More Chance" / "Help Me Please" (1967) and "Great Train Robbery" / "Sweet Freedom" (1968).

In 1970, Jeff Christie offered his composition "Yellow River" to The Tremeloes. They recorded it to release as a single but changed their minds as they were going more progressive as the seventies started. At the same time Tremeloes member Alan Blakely's brother Michael had a little group called the Epics and Alan wanted to give his brother a break. They decided to get Jeff Christie to come down from Leeds and let him use the Tremeloes backing track. The Epics became Christie with Jeff as the lead vocalist and the result was a UK number one hit in June 1970, and subsequently No. 23 in the US, also accumulating more weeks on the Hot 100 than any other entry on that chart completely inside 1970. It was a worldwide hit and was number one in 26 countries with global sales of over 30 million.

The follow-up single from October 1970, "San Bernadino" (misspelled if referring to, for example, San Bernardino, California), reached UK Number 7 and Number 1 in Germany, but only US No. 100. Both tracks became flash songs on their eponymous debut album of that year, and it stayed on US Billboard 200 chart for ten weeks. But the trio failed to sustain a lasting career, and Blakely was replaced by Paul Fenton (born 4 July 1946, Huddersfield, Yorkshire) just before the release of the band's second album, For All Mankind (1971).

Pantincruel ‎- Jazz Rock (France)

Really rare record recorded in south of france during the late 70°s , it features several good tracks between JAZZ FUNK / JAZZ PROG , and even some avant gard rythm and nice aavnt jazz solos , the group play fat , plus the all lp is good not just a break , also tracks with spoken words / scatt in french with nice lyrics , really hard to get because just out in low prressing and in a private label .. .

Record is VG / VG- with big stripes on the record smostly on b side , but finally the lp play VG+ ( not big surfacenoise , no pops and still vetry pleasant to listen ) , i am still selling this copy because this lp is ULTRA RARE and it play really good , but if you like EX record don't bid on this one ..

The Bluesanovas - Blues (USA)

The debut album of The Bluesanovas is a top album. Blues drenched in traditional Chicago blues from the fifties with a dose of West Coast and Texas blues added. Great class and that when you consider that all these guests are about the age of twenty-five. No, big experience sounds through this and that is not surprising. Already at a young age these men were taken to the Münster and Osnabrücker blues scene where musicians like Tom Vieth, Kai Strauss, Tommy Schneller, Jimmy Reiter, Memo Gonzales, Christian Rannenberg, Christian Bleiming and Todor Todorovich gave young blues musicians plenty of experience to do.

Nico Dreier, the keyboardist of the band is now also part of the Jimmy Reiter Band and regularly plays together with Kai Strauss. In the meantime, as a member of the band of Jimmy Reiter, he is allowed to add a German Blues Award to his name. The Jimmy Reiter Band won this prize in 2017. Nico's twin brother Philipp Dreier is the percussionist of the band, both of whom care about 20 minutes in age. Together with the contra bass and bass guitar playing Nikolas Karolewicz he forms the solid foundation of the band. These men lay down a carpet on which it is easy to play for singer guitarist Filipe de la Torre and vocalist harmonica player Philip 'Ralf' Heermann. These two men also gained extensive experience in the aforementioned blues scene where she learned the tricks of the trade.

Meanwhile, their first release is on Timezone Records. The band kicks off with the instrumentally played Daphne Blue, a song of their own in which the West side Chicago blues sound of Otis Rush and Magic Sam shoots through your thoughts and when Philip Heermann takes his solo, I think back to the work of Sam Meijer and Anson Funderburgh. The tone is set, great. The next track Rock'n'Roll Music has a lot of speed, partly because of the beautiful play by Nico Dreier on the black and white ivory keys. With the languid shuffle Red Headed Woman, in which Heermann chooses a wonderful acoustic harp game, the band switches to the sound of the fifties Chicago blues, and then with a raw oversteer on the harp to give color to the funky fifties rhythm and blues performance of Funky Woman, in which the organ plays a decisive role.

Baby I'm Gone swings like a four-year train. Time for the first cover, Junior Wells Come On In This House with striking acoustic harp playing and a great piano part and also in terms of vocals it is all right with this group is evident from the timing. With Knee On the case takes a different turn, but certainly no less than the foregoing. Nico Dreier and Filipe de la Torre seem to be in the shoes of Jimmy Smith and Grant Green on this track and thus offer us a second instrumental and delicious jazzy song. But with the same ease Filipe de la Torre turns T-Bone Walker type licks out of his guitar, which makes Scandalize My Name sound authentic again. With the non-professionally recorded live track Born In Chicago (Nick Gravenites) the band proves to be able to live well and convince live.

When these men keep their heads together, this band is a promise for the future and they will only continue to develop. A very strong debut !!

The Powder Blues Band is a Canadian blues/pop/jazz band formed in 1978 in Vancouver. Its first album Uncut went double platinum in Canada. The second album Thirsty Ears was similarly popular. Their best known songs include: "Boppin' with the Blues", "Doin' It Right", "Thirsty Ears", "Hear That Guitar Ring", and "What've I Been Drinkin".

The Powder Blues Band was founded in 1978 as a house band in Vancouver, British Columbia. The band was founded by brothers Tom Lavin (guitar, vocals), Jack Lavin (bass, vocals), and Willie MacCalder (keyboards, vocals). After playing in local clubs for 18 months,[citation needed] the band released their self-financed and self-produced debut album, Uncut, in 1980, followed by a tour of Canada and the US.[citation needed] The band won the Juno Award for "Most Promising Group of the Year" in 1981. Uncut went double platinum in Canada in 1982, selling over 200,000 copies. Their second album, Thirsty Ears, was released in 1981 and was certified platinum in Canada. In 1986, the band won the American W.C. Handy Award for "Foreign Band of the Year". The band's greatest hits album First Decade was released in 1990 and was certified gold.

Rangda - Instrumental Psych Rock (USA)

Rangda are named for the Javanese demon queen of the leyaks. This power trio is an instrumental psych rock and no wave-styled noise unit. The bandmembers are guitarists Sir Richard Bishop (Sun City Girls) and Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance, Comets on Fire, Current 93), and drummer Chris Corsano (Björk, Dredd Foole, Jandek, Sunburned Hand of the Man, Six Organs of Admittance, Jim O'Rourke, etc.). Bishop, Chasny, and Corsano live in three distinctly different parts of the United States, making rehearsals difficult. They came together over time first as an idea, since each man's schedule was quite heavy. Assembling as a touring unit, they tried out their very original material before recording their debut False Flag full-length. It was released by Drag City in May of 2010. The album was greeted with nearly unanimous critical acclaim, and the band supported it with a slew of touring. Rangda recorded and released their sophomore effort, Formerly Extinct, in 2012. Two limited vinyl releases containing live Rangda recordings appeared in 2013: a split LP with the Dead C (on Ba Da Bing!) and a 10" EP Live in Krefeld (on German label Unrock). The trio returned to Drag City in 2016 with the release of their third proper full-length, The Heretic's Bargain.

Bluesy Americana album of songs written and performed by Nashville and Muscle Shoals musicians whose playing and writing credits include Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, Delbert McClinton, Taj Majal to name only a few.

Big Shoes is a Nashville Tennessee based “blues and rhythm” band that incorporates traditional blues influences like B.B King and Ray Charles along with tastes of The Allman Brothers' Band, Bonnie Raitt and the Neville Brothers into their original and cover song format. Big Shoes was originally formed to recreate the blues/rock music of the 1970's band Little Feat. As the band's following grew it became clear that it was important to carve out a unique identity. That has been a fun and impressive journey that culminated in the release of their first album, "Shoes Blues" and most recently the critically acclaimed "Step On It!" album.

Big Shoes members have played and recorded with Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, Delbert McClinton, Taj Mahal, Etta James, Bobby Blue Bland and many other blues oriented pop artists. Keyboardist, Mark T. Jordan, was a band member on the Van Morrison classic album "Tupelo Honey", Bonnie Raitt's "Road Tested" live CD and scores of other albums that can only be classified as "music history.' Guitarist Will McFarlane has contributed to albums by Levon Helm, Joss Stone, Bonnie Raitt and Bobby "Blue" Bland. Will resides in Muscle Shoals, AL and is in constant demand with the Muscle Shoals rhythm section, aka, "The Swampers." blues music blues rock music and bands

Big Shoes lead singer, Rick Huckaby is an "in demand" session singer on Nashville's Music Row after being on the Warner Brothers, Nashville artist roster for 4 years. Andy Peake, Kenne Cramer, TomSzell and Bryan Brock round out the band with artist credits that include Delbert McClinton, Dr. Dre, Don Williams, Shaun Murphy (Little Feat,) Robben Ford and many more. The list goes on for Big Shoes members. They are a group of journeyman musicians who love the music they are playing and are great friends to boot. The combination of talents is impeccable.

Preacher Boy - Blues (USA)

Christopher Watkins, a twenty-something rocker from the San Francisco Bay area, is turning a whole new generation of teenage and twenty-something alternative rock fans on to the eternal hipness of the blues. Watkins, who uses the stage name Preacher Boy, is backed on his club shows around the Bay area and other parts of the West Coast by his band Natural Blues.

Watkins was born in Iowa City, but lived in Michigan, Kansas, Italy, and Washington before moving to San Francisco. At 16, his mom brought him a copy of Sam Charters' book The Country Blues from the library. Mrs. Watkins knew her son was becoming obsessed with a Howlin' Wolf record he'd found in the family record collection. After reading about country-blues musicians in Charters' book, Watkins became fascinated with the styles of classic country-blues players like Mississippi John Hurt, Son House, Bukka White, Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson, and Mance Lipscomb.

Watkins played guitar in a number of bar bands for several years before forming Preacher Boy & the Natural Blues in 1992. The band soon found themselves sharing stages with touring acts like Counting Crows, Chris Isaak, Los Lobos, J.J. Cale, and others on their San Francisco tour stops.

Gutters and Pews The band's self-titled debut for Blind Pig Records may not have been an overwhelming critical success, but change, whether it's in jazz or blues, is never easy. The band had a fresh take on the blues, and they turned out to be a surprise hit of the 1995 San Francisco Blues Festival. Watkins, who has a gruff, Tom Waits-like voice and jumpy, rhythmic guitar playing, shows an infectious energy and the band shows a maturity in the development of their style on their second album for Blind Pig, the 1996 release Gutters & Pews. On this album, the band successfully blends a range of Americana styles, including folk-blues, roots rock, funk, gospel, and early blues-based jazz. In 1998, Preacher Boy relocated to the U.K.,signed with Wah Tup, and released Crow. While opening for Eagle-Eye Cherry on tour promoting Crow, the two formed a songwriting partnership leading to Preacher Boy co-writing and playing on five tracks on Cherry's 2001 release Living in the Present Future. 1999 found Preacher Boy back in the States recording the follow-up to Crow. Devil's Buttermilk was released in 2000 on Manifesto and showed Preacher Boy further expanding his unique approach to the blues. Also in 2000, he contributed a version of "Old Boyfriends" to the Tom Waits tribute New Coat of Paint: Songs of Tom Waits.

Badge & Company was an American psychedelic southern blues rock group from Augusta .

The band formed in 1976 with original members Randy E. Coven (vocals , bass & fiddle ),

lead guitarist Terry D. Williams and drummer Virgil Eugene Martin.

A supernatural psychedelic blues delight like Moving Sidewalks & early ZZ Top.

This southern rock trio surgically strikes at what most like-genre bands can only feign. This little ol' album is simply soul-quenching.

A prime side of beefed up well done Texan psychedelica and weirdness smothered in spicy blues.

Slammin’ Gladys - Hard Funk Rock (USA)

Slammin’ Gladys released their self-titled debut in 1992, right at the tail end of America’s love affair with hair metal. A transplanted Akron, Ohio act with strong links to Warrant. Slammin’ Gladys, featuring former Risque players vocalist / guitarist David Brooks, guitarist J.J. Farris, bassist Al ‘Alley’ Collins and drummer Stephen De Board, had their solitary 1992 album executive produced by Jani Lane of Warrant. The album is a perfectly decent serving of funk rock, but it’s really nothing you haven’t heard before. Bands like Electric Boys, D-A-D, and Bang Tango were also bringing this kind of noise, and did a more memorable job of it.

Lane had previously worked with Collins in the formative act Playene Janeand had also produced 1991 demos for Risque. Keyboards came courtesy of former Defconman Shawn Zavodney. The album tracks ‘Down On Your Knees’ and ‘What U Need’ were co-written by Lane. Brooks subsequently donated vocals to the Hollywood Projectalbum whilst guitarist J.J. Farris would feature as guest acoustic guitarist on the track ‘Stronger Now’ on Warrant’s ‘Ultraphobic’. Backing vocals on ‘Lay Me Down’ and ‘Push’ would be supplied by Randee Robbins of Warbrideand Sister Strange.

If you are looking for a different approach to rock, this is it. Dave Brooks has one amazing voice with lyrics and music to match.

Amir Cantúsio Jr. is in actuality Alpha III. He was born in 1957, in Campinas Brazil. At age five he began playing Piano and guitar. Later, he studied experimental music at Universidade do Estado de São Paulo, and Universidade de Campinas. Over the years he has won several musical awards, thrice being named the best keyboardist in the world. Aside from his own work, Cantúsio has also performed and produced for other artists, and founded the first experimental electronic progressive label in Brazil, Faunus Records. Later he formed his own Alpha III Artistical Productions label.

While being praised for his skills, the music has been criticized for lacking substance. Atmospheric and melodic are commonly used adjectives. It is also suggested that collaboration with other musicians could inject some needed creativity.

Bill Bruford (YES) - Fusion Jazz Rock (Drums)

William Scott Bruford (born 17 May 1949) is an English retired drummer, percussionist, songwriter, producer, and record label owner who first gained prominence as the original drummer of the rock band Yes, from 1968 to 1972 and again from 1989 to 1992. After his departure from Yes, Bruford spent the rest of the 1970s playing in King Crimson, touring with Genesis in U.K., and eventually forming his own group, Bruford.

In the 1980s, Bruford returned to King Crimson for three years, collaborated with several artists including The Roches, Patrick Moraz, and David Torn, and formed his jazz band Earthworks in 1986. He then played in Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe, which eventually led to his second stint in Yes. Bruford played in King Crimson for his third and final tenure between 1994 and 1997, after which he continued with Earthworks and further collaborations.

On 1 January 2009, Bruford retired from public performance. He released his autobiography, and continues to speak and write about music. He operates his record labels, Summerfold and Winterfold Records. In 2016, after four-and-a-half years of study, Bruford earned a PhD in Music at the University of Surrey. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Yes in 2017.
