C.C. Designs Carrot Love!

Howtowhatnot
Welcome to our next installment of How To’s & What Not’s. Each week one of our DT Members creates a post with a how-to tutorial or a what not tip on the C.C. Designs Blog.

Today I'm sharing a tutorial on how I colored the fur on this cute guy called Carrot Love! I just think he's the cutest bunny ever and he's available in the C.C. Design's Store HERE. The sentiment is from AmyR Hopped Up Sentiment Set.

2015-03-06 Carrot Love (full view)
Copics:
Bunny: E41, E42, E43, E44, N0, N2, Blender/ Carrot: YR04, YR07, YR09, G21, G24

First, I covered my image with my lightest color, E41.
2015-03-30 Step 2
Next, I added some shading with E42 and E43.
2015-03-30 Step 3
Then I came in with my darkest color E44 and started adding little small flicks.
2015-03-30 Step 6
To get a better blend, I started adding dots with E43 close to the darker flicks.
2015-03-30 Step 7
Then, I came back in with E42 and E41 and added more dots in the lighter areas.
2015-03-30 Step 8
Finally I added dots with my Colorless Blender to pick up some of the ink. I let it dry and if I needed more color I came back in adding more dots with E41 and E42.
2015-03-30 Step 9
And here's my image all colored up. :)
2015-03-30 Step 10

Have an awesome Monday!

Yumi & Fumi Showcase Thursday~Clouds using Liquid Applique!

If you are looking for The Greeting Farm OA-Valentine Preview please scroll down.

Happy Thursday everyone! It's Rosie here to share my latest fun technique/tip of how I've been making my clouds lately on my colored images.

Here's my step-by-step. :)

First, I color up the main part of my image, except the the grass area. Today I'm using Yumi with Birdie from the Peek-a-Boo Spring Collection.

Then I grab B000 (a light blue) and color the entire background in a circular pattern all the way down to where the grass starts. It doesn't have to be full, complete coverage. Lighter areas help give it a more sky appearance.

Next, I use this awesome stuff called Liquid Applique and I draw some clouds. You want to be careful to not add a thick layer of Liquid Applique, otherwise you will have some really puffy clouds.

The last step is to grab your heat gun, or in my case, a toaster because I can't find my heat gun, LOL! Heat from underneath the paper until it puffs up. Be careful not to over-heat the Liquid Applique or it will start burning and turning brown.

I hope you enjoy this fun way of making some cute, adorable clouds! It's very addicting!

Have a great day!
Rosie :)

Coloring Gingham using Summer Yumi!

Good morning my peeps! So glad to see you here! If you haven't heard we've made some major changes over at the Yumi and Fumi Handmade Crafts Blog, so you'll definitely want to head over there, scroll down, and check out the new team and the new changes. Be sure to check out the current challenge going on right now too. We've changed the rules and now you can use ANY stamped image!! Be sure to link up your "Anything Goes" challenge card HERE!!

We've also added Showcase Thursdays where one of our designers will share something fun (a tutorial, a technique, case a project or use an older image, aka Throwback image).  If you'd like to see something specific, like you saw something on someone's project and you'd love to know how they did it, just leave a message in the comments section and we'll do our very best to create a post based on it. :)

Today I'm going to show you how I color gingham on clothes with my Copics. It's similar to my "Plaid" technique, but instead of 2 color families I just use one. I apologize for the low quality pictures. I'm on vacation at my mom's and I don't have my lamps. :(

Today, I'm making blue gingham so I picked B00, B02, and B05 for my colors.

First, I use B00 and draw my lines vertical and horizontal. You will want to try and space the lines equally apart, which I didn't do a very good job at here. :(

Then I grab B05 (my darkest color), and outline each of the B00 lines.

Then I use the same B05 and color in the following squares.

Next, I grab B02 and color in the squares on both sides of the B05 squares.

Here's Summer Yumi!! I love her! I decided to give her a blue gingham shirt. Again I started with B00 and made vertical and horizontal lines....this time I spaced them better.

Then I outlined the B00 lines with B05 and colored in the following squares with B05.

Next I came in and added B02 in each square next to the B05 squares. I also went over all the lines again with B00. And...there you have it....GINGHAM!
You'll see this cutie on a card for the next Y&FH challenge coming up on August 18th!

In the meantime, I hope you join us for our current challenge of "Anything Goes" HERE...and remember you can NOW use any stamped image! Check out all the new challenge rules by clicking the tab at the top of the page on the Y&F Handmade Crafts Blog.

Have a great day!

Plaid Coloring Tutorial using The Greeting Farm BABY ONESIE!!

Hi everyone! It was my turn to do a special post over at The Greeting Farm Blog so I decided to share a FUN and EASY tutorial with you!! I get asked all the time how I color plaid on my images. So today I figured I would do a step-by-step photo tutorial. You're probably going to laugh at how easy it is! But I tell ya, when people see it they think it's paper-pieced....so it must be working, right?!

I am using the new BABY ONESIE DIE from The Greeting Farm for my example below. It just happens to be the perfect size to use that chisel tip on the end of your Copic Markers.....you know that other end of the marker that never sees daylight!!! LOL!

Alright, here we go! The first step is to cut out the die! I know, I know I'm breaking it all down really simple here. :) Then cut out the little trim piece that goes across the belly and lightly trace it onto the die-cut so you know where to end your lines.

Whenever I do plaid I always pick a light color and a dark color in the same family. So for my "Boy Onesie" I picked these colors: B01, B05, G12, and G24.

I start off with the lightest colors first to make my initial lines. In this case, B01.

Sometimes I make my lines vertical, but for this example I decided to go diagonal. Do you see that I'm using that infamous CHISEL tip, WOOT, WOOT (finally getting some used out of that bugger)!

Make sure you leave enough space between the lines to add in the next color.

Then using the same B01, draw your diagonal lines the other way.

My next light color is G12.

Draw your green lines in-between the blue ones.

Here's the onesie with both the light blue and light green lines.
But wait....we're not done yet!!

Next we want to outline the diagonal stripes with our darker colors. First up is B05.

Here's where you want to switch back to your brush tip. With light strokes you now outline each light blue line with the darker B05.

Be sure to turn your die-cut and do the lines going the other way too.

Here you can see the B05 outline completed.

Next, grab G24 and do the same thing on the light green lines.

The PLAID is now finished!

I also colored the top of the onesie using B00, B01, B02, B04, and B05.

And for your viewing pleasure, I made a girl one to match. On the plaid lines for this one, I used R81, R85, G12, and G24. The top was colored with R81, R83, and R85.

Here are the two Onesies completed with their trim and collars! Pretty simple technique right?! You can add in additional colors too....just be sure to leave extra space between your first set of lines. :)
Well, that's it folks! I hope you enjoyed my PLAID Coloring Tutorial! If you did, please leave a comment here and over at The Greeting Farm Blog! :)

Also, if you haven't heard the news, there is a FACEBOOK CONTEST going on right now using this AMAZING Die! Head over to The Greeting Farm Group HERE to see how to enter!! You only have until June 30th....so hurry!!

Have a great week!

La-La Land Crafts Tutorial Thursday~~PLAID

Hi everyone! It's Rosie here with an easy-peasy plaid tutorial. This tutorial is being featured on the La-La Land Crafts Blog. I've received a lot of questions on how I make the plaid on my La-La Land Crafts images so here it is. Now, this is only my 2nd tutorial ever, so hopefully it's okay (I tend to over-think things!). My plaid technique is really not difficult, and I probably over-explained it here. However, I know for me personally, the more pictures...the better! :)

First, I pick 2 color families I want to use. Then, I pick a light color and a dark color from each family...so 4 markers total. You could add more colors, but when you are working in smaller spaces 2 colors seem to work best.. For this tutorial, I used these colors: R81, R85, G24, and G28.

For my image, I used Popsicle Marci. She can be purchased HERE.

I start with the lightest color...in this case R81.

I make diagonal lines going one way leaving room between the lines. You want to make sure you don't put the lines too close because we'll be filling in the spaces with additional lines.

Next, I turn my image and make diagonal lines going the other way with the same color, R81.

Now, I pick the next lighter color in the 2nd color family, G24.

I add G24 in between my R81 lines.

I turn my image again and add G24 going the other way.

Now, we are going to start adding our darker lines. I started with R85.

This requires a steady and light hand. If you press your marker too hard then you won't get the thin outer line. I generally use several short strokes with the marker to make the complete line. I outline each side of R81 with R85.

Here you can see both sides of the lighter pink (R81) outlined with the darker pink (R85).

Then, I grab the darker green, G28.

Again, with a steady and light hand, I outline the light green lines on both sides.

That's it....easy peasy, right?!! Here's my image all colored up! People always think I've paper-pieced it, but now you know the secret. :)

Here's a couple of pictures using Back to School Luka with the same technique.
I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and I can't wait to see all of you trying this technique on your La-La Land Crafts projects!!

Have a great week and don't forget to check back at the LLLC Blog tomorrow for more "Sweet Treats" Inspiration from Team Friday!!

Hugs,
Rosie :)
