Physics

Choose a subject

The natural world is a fascinating environment for the study of physics.

The atmosphere, oceans, ice sheets and space weather are all constrained by scientific principles, and knowledge of these is essential for tackling key environmental issues such as climate change and pollution.

Our BSc Environmental Physics will equip you with the knowledge, confidence and skills for a wide range of careers such as water resource management, environmental consultancy, energy supply, flood modelling, pollution predication or terrestrial and space weather forecasting. Government agencies, such as the UK Met Office and Environment Agency, are major employers of our graduates, as are the finance, insurance, power, utilities, transport, space, education, agriculture and health sectors.

As part of our specialist department, you will benefit from an enviable 1:2 staff to student ratio. You will be taught by world leaders in their fields, some of whom are Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) leaders and Fellows of the Royal Society.

Additionally, you’ll benefit from the Meteorology Department's close links to industry and a range of opportunities to enhance your employability.
