Do you want to read the good written material I have created today? The Indy 500. While thousands rushed to the track to drown themselves in alcohol in the blazing sun watching race cars zoom across the track going at speeds I've never traveled, I learned in the background. I made a decision to go in search of a good spot to watch the race on television yesterday and that is a good thing today. It sent me spiraling to Twin Peaks, a place I had listed on my calendar and scratched off the original day I chose to go. Still my sub-conscious would not let me forget what I had tried to erase. It pushed me in that direction and I arrived and met my destiny restoring the balance of today. I walked in with a quarter. I ordered a water and sat at the bar. My bartender was a seasoned veteran. She'd been there since it opened. Her next career goal in life is to be a housewife. I sat there for hours, just learning from the environment and her. The pack sitting to my left get louder as their drinks keep getting refilled. One of them speaks up and decides to order shots for the group. I chime in, can I have one too? No. Then he changes his mind, calls it karma, and orders me up one. Did we just become best friends? No. I soon learn what attracts me to the bartender, she reminds me of a person I knew in the past, Heather. Coincidentally enough, a red head strolls into the bar to work next to my bartender and her name is Heather. So I spend a few hours there just learning and being in the space. I'm not a king. I say at one point to the guy who bought the shots. Kiss the ring bitch. His response, drowning himself in booze. When him and his pack are about to leave, he bows and kisses my hand. I return after a visit home for a nap and dinner. My bartender and Heather are still there, grinding it through on a Sunday race day. I order a glass a house red and the banana pudding. Both were good then as of today. It wasn't about me that good day, it was about her, the bartender, and Heather, and that's a good thing today.

TL;DR: Customers car was being towed wrongfully, General Manager stepped in and paid the towing fee without being asked. Defended customers to police when they were involved. I am absolutely impressed with this restaurant. My girlfriend, my mother and I went to eat at this location tonight. We weren't expecting much, just another normal dinner with family. When we arrived it was much busier than normal due to it being Teacher's Appreciation Day, and we later found out they also had been doing a Percent of Sales night to help a local woman with cancer. Because of this increased business there were cars parked alongside the road near the store. While they were parked there, the owner of the gas station nearby went and planted a few "No Parking" signs, then called a tow company. Note, this was after the cars had already been parked without a sign. Tow trucks came and proceeded to lift a car onto the tow truck, and the owner of the vehicle (a patron at the Stacked Pickle) was furious. After a lot of arguing, and police being called, the General Manager (Mike?) came out and offered to pay for the tow truck to drop the car. He did this without hesitation, stating he wasn't going to have his customers' cars towed when he could do something about it. After talking to the waitress and the Assistant Manager, we received nothing but glowing praise about the General Manager. They've definitely made a lifelong customer of at least the 3 of us. I'll definitely be returning to this location at every opportunity. Business like this is how it should be done everywhere.

It was our first trip to this zoo and overall it was nice. I didn't know that there was a charge to park in their parking lot though, seems alittle odd. Also we were too late to grab tickets to see the dolphin show, but was able to watch it underground and that was still amazing. We got to see the elephants, red panda, and touch dog sharks. The dog sharks were small but it was still an amazing experience, as at our zoo here we get to touch sting rays. My only complaint there is that they have hand driers but not washing stations to clean your hands after touching the sharks. The giraffe feeding was a little disappointing because there are scheduled feeding times and the man who sold me the tickets didn't tell me we were too late (the tickets are general tickets and may be used for anything; but I specifically told him that we wanted to feed the giraffes). At our zoo here, you can feed them all day as long as the giraffes are willing. The kiddos loved to feed the birds. I loved that there was a mother's station for baby changes and nursing. Of course everything was super expensive so I suggest bringing something. The sky ride, which seems the coolest, closes early so if you want to get on the ride, plan ahead, as the line can be ridiculously long. One other thing was that the amount we paid for entry wound up being more than the cost of a family membership and no one told me. Once I realized it, they were willing to convert it into a membership. We live a couple of hours away but I'm sure we will come back within a year.

On January 19, 2017, Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL) introduced H.R. 303, the Retired Pay Restoration Act. This bill would end the unfair policy of forcing many military longevity retirees to forfeit some of their retired pay in order to receive equal amounts of disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The effect of this policy means military retirees are paying for their own disability with their military retired pay. This unfair policy has adversely impacted disabled veterans and their families for more than a century, but was partially repealed by Congress in 2004. Under current law disabled veterans with 20-plus years of active military service who are also in receipt of a VA disability determination of 50 percent or higher may retain both military retirement pay and their VA compensation. In line with DAV resolution 110, adopted at our most recent National Convention assembled in Atlanta, Georgia, July 31-August 3, 2016, we support the Retired Pay Restoration Act. H.R. 303 would end the longstanding and unfair practice of the government's withholding of military longevity retired pay in exchange for VA disability compensation, regardless of disability rating. DAV believes what is unfair for a veteran rated 50 percent disabled or higher by the VA is equally unfair for a disabled veteran rated 40 percent disabled or lower. Disabled military longevity retirees should not be unfairly penalized by the government for any reason. This legislation was referred to the House Committee on Armed Services in addition to the Committee on Veterans' Affairs. Please use the prepared email, or draft your own message, to request that your Representative support this important bill and ask that it be brought to the floor for a vote and passed as soon as possible. Thank you for all that you do for veterans and their families. We need your grassroots action to gain Congressional enactment of this important legislation. [-] less
