Nokia 8110 4G hands-on: o telefone da banana está de volta!

A nostalgia tem alguns grandes poderes aparentemente, evidente no recente anúncio do HMD durante sua conferência de imprensa do MWC 2018. Depois de levantar o Nokia 3310 de volta dos mortos no MWC do ano passado, o HMD seguiu com outro renascimento clássico - o Nokia 8110 4G!

Tornou-se famoso por uma curta participação no blockbuster de ficção científica de 1999, The Matrix, onde o personagem de Keanu Reeves abre um pacote para revelar o telefone deslizante, é o mais recente telefone Nokia clássico a ser trazido de volta à vida. E com certeza, o novo Nokia 8110 4G tem todos os mesmos aspectos distinguíveis do original - como o fator forma deslizante, e sim, sua forma banana-esque também. É construído inteiramente de plástico, o que, claro, o torna extremamente leve e fácil de transportar. Naturalmente, a sua forma e design únicos irão, sem dúvida, fazer com que algumas sobrancelhas aumentem se acontecer de você chicotear um.

Estaríamos inclinados a dizer que isso não será um driver diário para aqueles que se acostumaram com seus smartphones, mas, ei, certamente pode fazer um telefone de backup decente se você estiver indo em uma longa viagem ou férias, e não quero ser constantemente bombardeado por notificações e mensagens. Isso porque o aspecto mais forte do Nokia 8110 4G é a duração da bateria, que é estimada em mais de 25 dias de vida em espera no LTE com sua bateria de 1.500 mAh.

O Nokia 8110 é equipado com um chipset Qualcomm 205 dual-core rodando a 1,1 GHz, tem 512 MB de RAM e 4 GB de armazenamento interno compartilhado entre o sistema operacional e os aplicativos instalados pelo usuário. Na frente, um display QVGA de 2,4 polegadas com uma resolução de 320 × 240 pixels faz as rondas, solidificando o status do recurso do 8110 4G. Não há câmera frontal, mas uma caranga de 2MP faz as rondas na parte de trás.

Navegamos brevemente pelo telefone, o que leva pouco tempo para nos familiarizarmos, porque navegar é feito usando o teclado físico. Ainda assim, você pode fazer todo o básico, como fazer chamadas telefônicas, enviar mensagens de texto e até mesmo navegar na web, se você ousar em sua pequena tela. E sim, você pode até jogar uma rodada de cobra se acontecer de você desejar isso. Enquanto não há nenhuma palavra sobre qualquer plano de trazer isso para os EUA, seu preço de 89 euros pode ser suficiente para tentar as pessoas a importá-lo por nostalgia.

Nokia 7 Plus initial impressions: Ticking all the right boxes

HMD Global revived the Nokia brand last year, initially focusing on the budget segment with the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and the Nokia 6. While the manufacturer rolled out the Nokia 8 to cater to the premium category, it wasn't quite as good as the OnePlus 5T or the Mi Mix 2.

For its 2018 portfolio, HMD is introducing several phones aimed at different price points in one go — there's the Android Go-based Nokia 1 for the entry-level segment, the Nokia 6 2018 for the budget category, the Nokia 7 Plus at the mid-range segment, and the Nokia 8 Sirocco is the company's flagship.

The Nokia 7 Plus is the most interesting device of the lot, as it is the first Nokia-branded phone to feature an 18:9 form factor. The 6-inch FHD+ (2160x1080) IPS LCD panel has vivid colors and decent saturation levels, and it gets sufficiently bright that I didn't face any issues trying to read the contents of the screen under harsh sunlight.

Samsung explains how it brought Super Slo-mo to the Galaxy S9

Samsung releases a blog post today offering more insight on how the phone maker was able to put 960fps Super Slo-mo into the Galaxy S9 and what difference it has over the Galaxy Note8’s camera to make it possible.

First off, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ can record 960 frames in 0.2 seconds. This is stretched out to playback over six seconds and is 30 times slower than normal video recording. Samsung also threw in GIF exporting, reverse, and swing options to share your creations.

Of course, the issue that Samsung faced was that modern CMOS sensors capture light sequentially, which results in distortion in much higher frame rates. Samsung’s goal was to “create a CMOS sensor that would be fast enough to reduce the distortion problems, counter camera shake, and give users the power to explore completely new features.”

Samsung engineers needed to figure out how to make a sensor that would process images quickly enough to “slow down time”. The image sensor from the Note8 would need to be four times quicker for this to work. To handle higher frame rates, more bandwidth was needed for both the image sensor outputs and the video processing.

For this, Samsung came up with the three-layer image stack would is comprised of the CMOS sensor, a faster readout circuit, and dedicated DRAM memory to process buttery smooth slow-motion.
