Does the world need any more photos of Mesa Arch? Probably not… it certainly is one of the most photographed locations in Utah. But I think it's fairly easy to see why: it's an unusual natural feature in an incredible setting - and under the right light, it can be truly a feast for the eyes. The only trick is keeping the crowd of forty photographers behind your lens!

To be contemplative of one's own existence is a uniquely human trait often exaggerated at the mortality of others. There's a never ending search for the meaning of life and we've each been given a finite slice of time to solve the riddle. In the grand scale of the universe, our lives are just a quick blip – but we are able to transcend our allowed orbit and leave a legacy for far longer.
We're each created by the journey of our own mind and our experiences are unique for our time, but we can still transfer tokens of this worldliness on to others. Conceivably, a part of the meaning of life is to pass on knowledge, to share skills, to teach and to imbue thoughtful exploration. With this, every future generation is bestowed with a gift that increases with the passage of time.

The story behind the photo: When you're photographing at well known landmarks, it's challenging to come up with a unique photograph. Dad chose to shoot from a prone position using a wide-angle lens.
He was lucky this day because a small cloud drifted into the frame. He centered the lone cloud directly in the middle of the arch. The angle of shooting as well as the cloud help this photo look different than the thousands of other arch photos taken at Arches National Park in Utah.
