OK, Google. That’s it.
G+ will be shut down in April 2019.
Goodbye Google+. Welcome on MeWe.

“With the discovery of a new bug, we have decided to expedite the shut-down of all Google+ APIs; this will occur within the next 90 days. In addition, we have also decided to accelerate the sunsetting of consumer Google+ from August 2019 to April 2019”.

All profiles, collections, and communities will no longer be accessible. The work of lots of engaged moderators, content creators, and contributors will be downloaded to the landfill or you’ll get a tool which lets you download your work, most likely to Google Drive. And there it sits gathering dust.

Google has long used the phrase “Don’t be evil” as a company slogan, including it in the founder’s letter for its IPO in 2004, and at the top of its Code of Conduct. Alphabet has exchanged that by “Do the right thing” follow the law, act honorably, and treat each other with respect.

Killing Google+ is a contradiction to the their new slogan because it also kills the home of lots of engaged people, members, content creators, and last but not least moderators.

Here’s more about Google’s decision.

You mustn’t go home,
but you can’t stay here on Google+.
So don’t wait. Come join us on MeWe.

I think MeWe is the best alternative to continue posting and discussing about technology and other stuff. It feels like Google+ and is already the new home for many Google+ refugees. One of the really exciting features is the Community Chat in which members can discuss topics which are not related to specific posts. which are not related to specific posts. Another feature - some like it, some don’t - is to use emojis (instead of a single +1 on G+) for crediting or disliking posts or giving any other emojinal response.

Please join my group ‘Apple iThings’

on the MeWe next-gen social network.

This group is heavy moderated and you won’t find any kind of bullshit, spam, porn, or other off-topic stuff.

How to join ...
If you aren’t already on MeWe click on JOIN and fill in the required data. You mustn’t use your real name. Confirm your mail address with the mail you get from MeWe. Download the app and search for the open group “Apple iThings”. Join. That’s it.

Thanks a lot for being a loyal follower.
Looking forward to meet you on MeWe.

Here’s an interesting article about my remark in my last post that Apple’s pricing is far above its competitors:

Premium is nice, diversification is better

I think Apple learned the lesson.
The applenomic theory to on and on increase the average price of the iPhone lineup (far above the price increases of competitors) if the number of customers declines didn’t work.

Also, the USA are an important market but it won’t be the biggest market for Apple in ten years. The team around Tim looked too much on expensive technology which isn’t needed to do the things normal people do with their smart phones.

Rumors and opinions from Slashgear

I think 2019 will be a boring year.
But you never know what the big manufacturers have in their pipleline. 5G is definitely not worth to talk about.

Happy New Year.
Thanks for visiting my collection.

Sadly there are only less than three months to go until Google+ will stop giving us all a great platform to share content. But there’s an alternative. It’s MeWe.

Apple’s 17-Bit operating system
as of December 31, 2018

Beside some iOS, OSX, watchOS, and tvOS updates Apple also released a couple of human updates.

The Executives

Some executives got lost compared to the listed modules of the OS on Apple’s website in 2017.

Denise Young Smith (VP Inclusion and Diversity), Joel Podolny (VP Dean, Apple University), Richard Howarth (VP Industrial Design), and Alan Dye (VP User Interface Design).

So there is no inclusion, no diversity, no industrial and user interface design any longer.

New to the board are Katherine Adams, John Giannandrea, Isabel Ge Mahe, and Deirdre O’Brien.

So Apple stepped down from an 18-Bit OS in 2017 to a 17-Bit OS a year later.

The Products

An operating system needs a housing in which the work is done and the bugs feel well. So an open question is which new devices will join Apple’s ecosystem in 2019. A warm welcome in advance from all dwellers already preparing their bank accounts for another attack from the spaceship commanders.

Save money, have fun.

Apple vs Microsoft

Again 2018 was the year of the two companies which most prominently stand for the Silicon Valley industry.

Apple still isn’t the company which is able to provide a “big” infrastructure for the enterprise. And Microsoft? Well, regarding mobile devices they completely disappeared from the picture.

What about AAPL and MSFT stock values?
Well, it’s not that important what the penny arcades, aka stock exchanges, disclose every day.

Take it with Albert Einstein

Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts.”

Happy New Year 2019

This year will be the year in which a big company shuts down a service for millions of engaged people all over the world with shady rationales.

Life goes on.

Many of us are disappointed Google+ refugees who miss what they had. Me too. But the strength of humans is to accept new challenges. In my opinion life would become boring if there wouldn’t be changes.

So enjoy a new place. For me it’s MeWe.

It would be awesome
if you would join my group ‘Apple iThings’ on MeWe.

It’s a heavy moderated community and you won’t find meaningless stuff, porn, or any other kind of BS there.

But keep in mind it won’t be awesome without your engagement as commenters contributors, and content creators.

Let’s have an exciting time.

Regarding other than technological interests in your life follow this belief of Albert Einstein in the upcoming new year:

Peace cannot be kept by force,
it can only be achieved by understanding.”

Thanks.

Great admirers
Don’t LOVE your iThing just LIKE it.

Sadly there are also other very special people leaving their distinctive traces (aka Fanboy DNA) in social networks most often trying to incite one of these useless and boring platform wars, predominantly about the pros and cons of Android and iOS.

Here’s just one example of countless others:

”Lol brainless samsungfags, if you hate iPhone so much, why do you care to watch it? Lol the android community is so damn annoying. Shut up about the shit4 or note 3, stop hatin on Apple!”

Most often these people with unhealthy mental throwbacks talk about their beloved company as if it’s a political candidate running for control of the universe.

A phone might not seem to be something worth fighting over, but what it stands for most definitely is.

A fanboy immediately turns into a hostage. Hostages have no choice but to buy certain products. They are far less likely to care if one device is better than another. It’s the choosing one thing over another which leads to narratives about why you did it. If you have to rationalize why you bought a luxury item, you will probably find ways to see how it fits in with your self-image.

More about fanboyism ...
