Shared publicly -I'm starting to suspect that bubble baths were invented to keep the water warm, with the bubbles creating an insulation layer.

I was at a hotel once that had an indoor-outdoor pool, connected by a 3ft tunnel. It was February, so the outdoor portion of the bathwater-warm pool was covered in little ping-pong ball sized styrofoam balls that kept it insulated, like you said.
