A NEW WAY TO USE INTEGRATED DEVICES
The updated Alexa App Smart Home section lets you view the state and control your smart lights, locks and thermostats. When you are on-the go, use the app to quickly check the status of your lock or turn off your lights. You can also navigate to the device’s settings page to rename the device or disable it. The new Multi-Room Music section allows users to designate a group for devices on the same Wi-Fi network. Once created, group names can be used to control music playback. The new Routines section allows users to automate a series of Smart Home and audio actions with one custom command. The new capabilities are available to customers with phones on Android 5.0 or later.
CONNECT WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS
With the Alexa App, you can call and message Amazon Echo device owners and anyone else with the Alexa App on their phones. When you’re away from home, use the app to make a quick call or send a message to your family’s Echo. Use Drop In to instantly connect with your devices for a call. For example, you can drop in to let the family know it’s time for dinner or check in on the baby’s nursery.

For Alexa device owners, the free Amazon Alexa App is a companion to your Alexa device for setup, remote control, and enhanced features. Alexa is always ready to play your favorite music, provide weather and news updates, answer questions, create lists, and much more. Alexa is an incredible concept - and it works! MOST OF THE TIME. Frequently have to repeat commands because they either don't work or work only partially. For example, "alexa, turn off stairs" may not work at all sometimes, or may result in only one of the two lights in that group being turned off. Sometimes alexa can't seem to do anything! STILL, it mostly works and when it does it is a great convenience. Also, NO ONE makes smart light bulbs that are bright enough! For a bright environment you will need to use additional bulbs.

Well, the set up is straight forward. You need to ask the questions as dead on as u can or she either ignore the question or selects the wrong song/play list. I have been using the timer & reminder function for cooking. And of course to not to forget to do something. It is a matter of getting familiar with the settings. The music part is handy for work or for relaxing. The best parts are asking for the time, weather, questions that come to you out of nowhere. As example, recipes for parties. You can have the recipes sent to your phone so don't need to search for pen or paper. Keep in mind as always there are many things you can do with this app. You can listen to weather, keep up with the news by going to the My Skills section. This app is the backbone of Alexa. Once set up & paired it can be a very helpful app. For the one star reviewers to me you need to keep in mind new features are added as the app evolves.
Had in Canada for over a year and was working perfectly until the Canadian release. App won't let me add skills since it's not a canadian unit. Refuse to buy another one since I know it's easy for Amazon to fix this. They're holding my Alexa hostage! Free Alexa!!

Well it doesn't look like a native app and seems it runs a website beneath and is slow. The echo device is great once setup. But the setup process is too painful and annoying. During setup at times it just doesn't recognize wifi networks. If I change my wifi passpord, running the whole setup is too difficult. The app ( or rather the website undeneath app ) also gets unresponsive sometimes in few setup screens, specially after the app connects to echo and it shows a 'Continue' button which doesn't respond. EDIT: I got a new echo Dot and setup is hung up on step showing 'Attempting to connect to echo dot'. The phone got connected to the dots WiFi but nothing happens in setup process. Setup is just too painful.

Not able to setup on Android. I m using gen1 echo with Android Oreo device. I tried it to setup on my phone but it didn't work. I tried all options like turning off smart Wi-Fi connection, resetting Echo device But no luck. I think gen1 echo no longer works. Wasted my money on this $100 paper weight..

Great app I use it with my Echo Show. Issue I have is when calling using Alexa app to my Show I must wear headphones. Whatever permissions reinstalls I do sound comes through mobile earpiece not loudspeaker, makes a video call without headphones impossible.

Customer service sucks. Every time you call it is always a non USA person. Hard to understand and get anything done. It is amazing how all the recordings are in real English though, but can't every have English speaking person to help you with Alexa issues.
Alexa is sooooo frustrating. It drops calls after 2 or 3 minutes, it lost all of my wemo connected switches and it really cant answer any questions you may have. It really is only good for the weather and news.
It's ok, not the simplest UI and it has a long way to go to interface with Spotify and Sonos. Alexa doesn't find many albums I specify and will play some random ones. Many of the skills are useless I only use hive to control lights. Needs big improvements to keep up with new Google equivalent.
Need to be optimised for Indian users. I try to listen to music on my echo dot, but prime music doesn't have much Hindi, Telugu, Tamil music collection. Should expand the music Indian music library in prime music. I couldn't add address of an location in Hyderabad. So lot of features like traffic, weather updates are not available to me. It's been just a day of usage. I will update review with shortcomings in future as I use.
Fantastic app... Brings the Alexa experience to life. Though, I am using it to manage my smart home and wish it had a way to delete or forget all devices easily. It becomes a challenge to manage multiple devices from multiple areas i.e. using a hub and a configuration using a skill directly from the manufacturer is not easy to do anymore
Why only allow 2 household users!? We have more than 2 people in the house that want to use the app to add their own shopping lists etc. It makes it literally pointless for anyone else to install the app. Also it should recognise different voices instead of having to switch profile, stupid. Stupid as hell. Learn a thing or two from Google, they don't restrict you like this. Oh and the app is too slow to navigate.
It's ok, my biggest bug bear, is why do these apps insist on being internal memory only! Please allow the option to move to SD card, as with all the bloatware on android, and without rooting the device, it kills the internal memory, come on Amazon I expected better, all apps should have this option.
simply you can not remove devices you add and now not required!! only you can disable it which is confusing, duplicate devices, and some time errors
This app, and Alexa in general, has a loooong way to go when you have a Canadian amazon account. Many (if not most) skills are not available for Canadian accounts. The "currently playing" section is inaccurate, you have to keep closing and reopening the app to get the right state of things.
Amazon refuses to let uses remove items from a list stating security reasons, yet anyone can add to a list. This is b.s.. also they took away the ability to remove items from your smart home and replaced it with a disable option. Stop taking away things we need and refusing to provide is with the options we want. We purchased the product, not your high and mighty opinion. You have turned a useful smart home interface into a garbage collecting bin which you will probably use to try to shovel more you wanted items down our throats. Knock this off or I'll be switching over to Google home.
Wish I'd got a Google. The app has stopped working since an update. Which means my Amazon echo won't play my music. Alexa doesn't do half the stuff Google does. Won't even do simple unit conversions. Very poor app and poor product
It was a great app. In the Music, Book and Video drop down I was able to select all genres of music and artists but now I'm unable to find any of it. The app freezes a lot.
This is not used to control the IR learned devices through broadlink RM pro (3rd gen). It only control the list out branded devices with some wrong function
I use it for our Echo and this app is so moody. When it works, it's awesome of course but when it doesn't, it's a garbage. I have to completely close it out and restart the app. So dumb.
Too basic, making it super frustrating to use the "smart" device/Echo. And even when it's linked to the Echo, the app will not work, saying: currently unable to perform the task. Very disappointed in the app and Alexa. Both unable to do basic things.
Though Echo V2 speakers are really good. Assistant capabilities of Alexa and the Alexa app itself are pretty bad.. Amazon really need to work improving App experience and add more capabilities to Alexa.
Don't even know if it works cuz none else I know had the app and doesn't want to download it it would be better if it could be used to just send things to any device or look up anything hell it says it doesn't even work in my Alcatel A30 and the voice recognition doesn't even activate the app to even get it to work I have to open the app then type stuff in
Echo Show has everything I'm looking for. It would have been a 5 stars but my ring video doorbell is not compatible with it. Please update.
Keeps giving error about langagur not set to Canada on account, however everywhere there is an option for language just says "English - EN" Can't view skills due to this
The new GUI is horrible (for home automation). Who ever was in charge before had some sense of automation in general, the new guy /team not that much. Alexa app is not far off from a DeviceNet scanner, with auto discovery and node addition enabled. The major flaw from start was / is that once a scan list is created you do not want the scanner to go out and keep adding devices on its own (locked scan list) unless you tell it so (discover new devices). In the older GUI you could tell because it was list based (why not have an option to switch between list and tiles like Windows had) what device and what hub it belongs to without opening multiple Windows. Before you could delete devices from scan list so you can pinpoint where (what hub) you want to control the device from. Now you have a disable option where you can not edit the name or delete the device. The design team should look for functionality and user friendly interface. Alexa app is the heart, the connecting point for voice commands in home automation. Once users get things setup the way they want and all works as it should, why keep screwing it up with pointless modifications?
Started having issues with my echo dot in canada doesnt reconize music from spotify and it did couple weeks ago
While doing set up it's showing language configuration trouble.even after the Amazon app language and the Alexa app language are made onto English US
Awful app. Does not work from the Note 8. Keeps timing out and cannot connect to any of my devices. I have to use my 2 year old tablet running lollipop. Terrible app
Whenever I go to the alarm menu the screen freezes, I am unable to click anything and I can't click away to anything else
I am not able to link my Fire TV Stick & Echo. Also performance of the app is poor.
I would really love to see if the developer team can add a feature to make a routine of playing music in the morning at a specific time
Love my Alexa😃 its my daily resource for news headlines, set alarms n timers, listen n identify music, horoscope n traffic updates.
It doesn't show English Canada as a language. As a result I can't add skills
In Canada this app is next to useless. It doesn't support Netflix. It doesn't support YouTube. It doesn't support IFTTT. Heck Alexa doesn't even support Amazon own Fire Stick or shopping service! Bottom line? I'm uninstalling the app and returning the useless Amazon Echo. Take my advice, if you're looking for a home automation go with Google Home!
Alexa is as versatile as it gets! and this alexa app does wonders for her,in many facets of every day use.always something to do
Terrible interface, and awful support for using a different language than the region default.
Dedicated to music only. Atleast in India. We already have Bluetooth speakers with battery. Very less people use smart lights. They are not working on local business like hospitals, medical store, hotels nearby. They even did not let us write review on amazon saying product yet to be released. Definitely not for Indian market. I did not returned it hoping amazon may work to make it user friendly as per India but they are not serious about it. Just import and sell strategy not expected from Amazon.
I agree with "To short"! We've done everything we can do and may as well put it back in the box😖😞😟.
I have installed and uninstalled this to get it to work. I haven't been able to use the app in almost a week
