Micah Van Hove is a writer/director/DP and film journalist who has been exploring the possibilities in micro-budget cinema since 2009. His first feature film Menthol (from the Executive Producer of “Boyz n’ the Hood") screened at film festivals including Santa Barbara, Sofia and Brooklyn. His work as a music video director has premiered on Rolling Stone, Vice, NPR, Stereogum and more. As a regular writer for No Film School since 2013, Micah has sought out to stimulate discourse and elevate films that reflect a commitment to personal and courageous work.
He is currently in post-production on his second feature film Shadow of a Gun.

Thanks Ed. I used SLR Magic Anamorphot 1.33x, mostly 50mm I believe, and a little GL Optics 50-100mm (Sigma) for the zoom.

That's true, I failed to mention the fact that you can't format, I'll add that to the list of cons. It hadn't been an issue for me during my workflow on the feature since we were dumping and formatting cards nightly anyways.
While I agree with you about the UI of the Tascam, the lock button on the DR-10L is technically still exposed, so left unattended for several hours it could still make me nervous. There's no possible way to activate the DARs recessed button from inside a pocket. Also the DAR provides a -16db pad that the Tascam does not, which is an important feature for filmmakers on a budget.
