This is America. No other President in my lifetime would allow this to happen, Democrat or Republican. It is sick and I hope someone can find a way to make him legally responsible and he spends the rest of his life regretting that he just couldn't give a shit.

I'm no Wilsonian, but Woodrow Wilson did say the US "can afford to exercise the self-restraint of a truly great nation, which realizes its own strength and scorns to misuse it." I know, I know, that ship has sailed.

After 2+ years of inept non-diplomacy," & co. are getting ready for "retaliatory strikes" against Iran. Likely result: no real change. I'm reminded of a great line from Asimov's FOUNDATION trilogy: "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."

As Pompeo, Bolton, & Co. try to gin up a war w/Iran, some scholarly works to check out: J. Mearsheimer, WHY LEADERS LIE, 2011 J. Schuessler, DECEIT ON THE ROAD TO WAR, 2015 C. Kaufmann, "Threat Inflation & the Failure of the Marketplace of Ideas," INTERNATIONAL SECURITY (2004)

The most abused word in our current political lexicon is "links," as in: Country X has 'links' to Al Qaeda." This weasel word means whatever warmongers want it to mean. The US has extensive "links" to lots of countries & groups, but that doesn't mean we're in cahoots w/them.

Remember that Trump has a great diplomatic option available with Iran right now, one that has the strong support of our most important allies: Rejoin the nuclear deal he withdrew from, and then pursue broader negotiations.

I hope Iran chooses a different path. But let's be clear: Trump provoked this crisis. He has no strategy to contain it, he's burned through our friends and allies, and now he's doubling down on military force. We can't afford another forever war.

how can anyone allow this lie to be published? the US violated and broke the deal. Iran was complies to the letter before the US broke it. and you don’t bring nations “to heel” you enter agreements with them and then you both comply, something the US is clearly incapable of doing

2/ As I recall, also doesn't want us to blame the actual cause of Iran's greatly expanded regional influence -- the Iraq war. So, we are to "blame" diplomacy for its successes but not belligerence for its failures.

An astonishing story. You can’t believe that people would do this. Now Trump has appointed this absentee ambassador to the nation’s most important diplomatic post.
