A federal judge blocked enforcement of Texas' anti-BDS law in a stunning decision last April, and has now ruled Texas can’t thwart a First Amendment challenge to the law by simply amending it. Kudos to and for bringing this lawsuit!

GREAT NEWS: On the same day that the House passed a resolution condemning the BDS campaign for Palestinian rights, a federal district court threw a wrench in efforts by the state of Texas to evade judicial review of a law that punishes boycott advocates.

Like Ilhan Omar, advocates for Palestinian rights are castigated for demanding that Israel respect human rights and international law and insisting that the First Amendment protects our right to boycott towards these ends.

It is troubling that the Democrat-led House would align itself with a rightwing condemnation of a grassroots human rights movement. Fortunately, this is a nonbinding resolution that has no legal impact on our right to boycott for justice. Full statement:

"Our right to free speech is being threatened with this resolution. It sets a dangerous precedent because it attempts to delegitimize a certain peoples' political speech. And to send the message that our government can and will take action against speech it doesn't like." 💯💯💯

The sad irony of this is that Congress is voting on a resolution tomorrow that claims "the BDS Movement promotes principles of collective guilt, mass punishment, and group isolation," while Israel is literally demolishing homes next to its illegal wall.

In case you don't know, the case against UMass Amherst's Palestine panel is still in play (sort of). A Boston judge ruled last month that pro-Israel students cannot remain anonymous if they want to sue the school. They have until this Thursday to decide.

(3/3) This conflation of criticism of Israel with antisemitism is worn out and dangerous. It smears advocates for Palestinian human rights and makes them targets for racist backlash and censorship, and it fails to protect Jewish people from lethal white supremacist violence.

Even Yahoo News can't ignore that the Trump administration's summit on antisemitism this week focused more on pro-Israel platitudes and anti-Palestinian tirades than on combatting white nationalist violence against Jewish Americans. (1/3)
