Trump Twitter-shamed you *yesterday* and you're already back on the sycophancy train.

Indeed. For some reason the pundits always say it's the craziest/most chaotic/most incompetent administration in modern/postwar history. But no, it takes the prize for any administration in America's quarter-millennium history.

It’s a betrayal. These men have bled. They’ve sacrificed. They’ve born the burden of the war. And now we leave them. It is a disgrace.

Mattis is essentially the only top member of the Trump administration to emerge from it with his reputation as intact as when he entered. I can’t think of any others - not John Kelly or anyone else.

Trump is also inclined to remove thousands of troops from Afghanistan soon. Mattis wasn't happy with that. But quitting today was because Trump wouldn't reverse course on Syria -- and exacerbated by Trump overruling him on joint chiefs of staff chair pick.

Trump overruled Mattis on picking joint chiefs of staff chair & startled him with Syria withdrawal/push to leave Afghanistan. Mattis made final appeal to Trump this afternoon to reverse course & was rejected. So he quit. Latest w/ & :

Mattis was livid over Syria withdrawal, potential Afghanistan withdrawal & being kept out of decisions by John Bolton. He saw POTUS overruling him on joint chiefs of staff chair as humiliation. He disliked Trump's friendliness w/Putin, among other things.

With due respect Senator, the errors began long ago, when Republicans failed to stand up to Trump and his disastrous policies.
