Encouraged that PM also vowed to raise marriage age to 18, pass family protection law & publish CEDAW. If laws comprehensive & grow out of serious civil society consultations, it'd mark major progress towards women’s protection & equality 2/2

This is great. So the Palestinian authorities will drop charges against Issa Amro? Re-write your Cyber Crimes law? And there will be accountability for thugs in security forces that beat up protesters?

To this Israel-can-do-no-wrong, attack-anyone-who-reports-the-contrary observer, all Palestinians evidently look the same. President, Prime Minister, what’s the difference? Classic NGO Monitor.

Former Israeli prime minister cancels planned trip to Switzerland over threat that he would be arrested for war crimes committed in Gaza in 2008-09. Increasingly impunity at home is leading to justice attempts abroad.

Welcome Palestinian PM 's pledge to combat torture & end arbitrary arrests, but meaningless if doesn't apply to nonconstructive criticism & not accompanied by concrete action. Abuses systematic & impunity endemic. We'll be watching... 1/2

[Thread] Israel’s latest demolitions of Palestinian homes in are a serious violation of human rights & international law, which make the prospect of a two-state solution ever more remote.

A very positive step that will need to be backed up by action. If only Israeli leaders would make a similar gesture toward human rights defenders instead of working to silence, initimidate, and expel them.

Another productive pledge from ’s meeting yesterday with the Palestinian prime minister. Enforcement, of course, is key, but this was a positive step.

Also worth mentioning that UN SG report on children in armed conflict says 2018 saw highest number of children killed (59) since 2014, mostly by forces. Yet isn't on "list of shame".

Productive meeting yesterday with PLO Secretary General - greatly appreciate his candor & willingness to tackle rights abuses, regardless if by the Israeli government, the Palestinian Authority or Hamas authorities in Gaza.

Israel’s government claims to outsiders that boycotts because of its mistreatment of Palestinians are having no effect while warning Israelis that they pose a strategic threat and citing them to disparage Palestinians and promote illegal settlements.

Thanks Mr PM for receiving us and for this commitment. We hope your guarantee of right to criticize will extend to criticism you deem unconstructive; that will mark meaningful progress for the PA.

As the media outrage showed, Israel's effort to deport 's representative is an attack on mainstream human rights advocacy. The Netanyahu government should use the court's sudden, unusual postponement to rethink its transparent censorship plans.
