This is one reason why Pompeo is such a awful SecState. Haig made stuff up occasionally, and then State Dep't spokesman would walk it back. But Pompeo asserts a lot of garbage, and then spokesperson just shuts up when questioned. Shameful.

Risible. i guess Mark didn't get a lot of U.S. history growing up in South Africa and Canada, although there have been ample examples since he arrived in the U.S.

Remarkable. The Trump administration actually made a pragmatic, rational decision. Of course, if they hadn't, the Iraqis, especially in the power-starved South, would have reacted very, very badly.

President Trump May have violated the Constitution (again), this time by exposing an alleged covert US-North Korean agent .

President Trump’s “maximum pressure” campaign on is destroying one of the more effective nuclear nonproliferation achievements in recent years and is provoking reactions that, in places like the Gulf of Oman, make a new war more likely than before .

From 2000 to 2005 Paul Pillar, as national intelligence officer for the Near East and South Asia, was in charge of analyzing those regions for the CIA and all other US intelligence agencies. It's very much worth reading his take on Iran in :

Saudi Arabia is using a Houthi rebel attack on one of its international ports to justify and prolong its war on Yemen and empower it’s preferred candidate for leadership there .

Two months ago, Saudi Arabia executed 37 citizens with barely a peep from the Trump administration. Now, it’s poised to execute three religious scholars in a move that would cause serious friction in the kingdom’s relations with Turkey .

What I dont understand is why the military say the Iranians removed a mine and then they release a photo saying there is likely a mine still on it? Wasn't it meant to be removed? What's the sequence of events? Why did the other mine not explode?

We haven't seen the evidence, but it wouldn't shock me if Iran is indeed responsible for this. If you subject a country to economic strangulation, you should expect it to fight back with the tools at its disposal.

Pompeo routinely makes Bolton look diplomatic. Worst secretary of state in living memory at least. And given his penchant for sweeping accusations without evidence (really, Iran is responsible for a car bomb in Kabul?), he must have been terrific as CIA director, too.

Conflicting reports & murky circumstances. At times like this, I wish we had: - A direct, official channel of communication b/w Washington & Tehran - An incidents at sea agreement - A US president/administration that could speak with credibility

Did Sudan's military council start a coup against dictator Omar al-Bashir, pushed by the protesters, for the sake of Sudan or for the sake of saving itself?

2 more tankers were hit in the Gulf of Oman despite US warships nearby. It's unclear who is responsible, but all eyes will turn to Iran. Meanwhile, Khamenei told Abe he has no interest in talking to Trump. "Maximum pressure" is producing minimum dividends.
