I don't believe that the solution should necessarily be censorship, but lack of censorship with no other solution is increasingly dangerous. These social networks are programmed to suppress critical thinking. Freedom to publish is not a real freedom when the platform is not free

I'm not sure what should be done. Content distribution in social networks is a huge problem and the solution might not be censorship. Maybe the distribution mechanism itself can be changed to make exposure less of a problem. I'm against black/white reasoning in this new problem.

Exposure matters. It isn't as simple as avoiding bad ideas. We don't have as much agency as we like to think. In the digital world, ideas target us. It's similar to ads. If people can be convinced through targeted ads to buy bad products, they can be targeted to adopt bad ideas.

Assuming speech does need to be regulated in the digital world, how do you suggest they do it?

There are still blogs and other platforms. It seems to me that conspiracy theories did not enjoy back then the equivalent of a digital platform today, yet conspiracies were exposed as true. Were they not exposed fast enough? Why mess with their reach, and at what cost?

The reach is even greater than that of a small newspaper. Digital content is heavily targeted. Evidence so far suggests that we can't handle it. It's happening too quickly and breaking too many valuable things.

The problem with applying the 1st amendment to digital platforms is that we're dealing with a new distribution mechanism. In analogue terms, the difference is between ranting at a street corner vs publishing a small newspaper. We should think seriously about the consequences.

He is not Jewish. I don't know why you would think that he is. I haven't find any information that indicates that he is.

I didn't say racism is individual acts of racial prejudice. I said the opposite. The definition of racism is independent of its manifestation. This distinction does not ignoring manifestations that have more harmful effect.

OK, great. I'll let my Syrian and Yemeni parents know that we're white now, I'm sure they'll be surprised.

To your other point, it does not diminish in the least the plight of coloured minorities in the US/UK to say the definition of racism is independent of its manifestation. It is racist to be bigoted against a racial group, regardless of who you are or which race you target.

Today is Holocaust memorial day. It's sad that the existence of antisemitism is still being denied today. Here are some links to answer your questions:

Insidious, not invidious. I don't see why not. Insidious means "Proceeding in a gradual, subtle way, but with very harmful effects". The holocaust didn't happen in a day. If you're not happy with my choice of words, it's fine, I'm not married to it. How about just "harmful"?

Insidious in the sense that the way in which it came about was gradual and very harmful.

It's unfortunate that you see it that way. I still haven't seen a convincing reason from you for why bigoted statements about a group of people for no reason other than belonging to that group, is not bigotry, or in our case - racism for racial groups and antisemitism for Jews

Racist policies and racism are separate things. Implementation of racism through the use of power is a more insidious form of racism. Lack of such power (though no one is completely without power) does not negate racism. It only makes it less of an immediate problem
