Re-upping: a new season of ‘Our Towns’ travel; a journey through Indiana; and the distillation (in Part 1 of a report from Muncie) of a point that still strikes me each time we travel between DC and “out there."

This is a valuable thread, on a development we plan to discuss soon too.

Looking forward to meeting these smaller-community leaders.

This is very interesting for what it says about the rest of the country, and what it says about D.C. (as a city, not a political arena).

Understand. Noise effects *are* unambiguously bad (see Atlantic piece: )

Problem is not the leaves! In terms of what the 200-mph winds stir up, it’s fine particulates; top soil; mold; and, yes, animal fecal matter. Breathe deep!

Despite established urban tech hubs, some smaller cities are attracting high-tech jobs with lower living costs, unique talent pools, and geographic diversity, writes.

Ahem: If it’s a battery-powered one, good move! If it’s gas powered, each 30 minutes you use it is like driving a pickup truck coast-to-coast (emissions-wise).

I am anti-WHCD, of long standing. ( ) But making the most serious use of the occasion I can remember. Well done. (And now headed elsewhere so won’t see rest on TV.)

In the communications realm, he’s an excellent niche-talk-radio host. Can keep his specific audience riled up and believing. No interest in, feel for, or demonstrable success at communicating beyond that established supporter-crowd.

Semi-inside joke… ,.. but since the insider constituency, of political journalists and editors and pundits, makes up much of Twitter, actually a well targeted joke.

Agree. This is not an “oh, everybody did it, can’t judge by today’s standards” situation. -The publication where I work (and Matt once did) supported abolition. -The (male) forebears I had in the country then were in the Union army. Lots of people were anti-slavery even then.

Yes, Lee only fought for VA. His refusal to manumit his own slaves until forced to, his enslavement of free black people during the war, his maltreatment of black soldiers, and his opposition to black suffrage after the war are all just a coincidence.
