Look outside tonight for a bright red "star" in the moon's glare. It's really the planet Mars! 🔴🌓 Michael Daugherty caught Mars near the moon on September 19, 2018, shining over Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, California. Thank you, Michael!

The 1st quarter moon comes today at 14:54 UTC 🌓 A 1st quarter moon is high up at sunset. It appears half-illuminated, like half a pie. Really, you're seeing half the moon's day side! 📸: Duke Marsh in Indiana 📸: Aqilla Othman in Malaysia
