So to recap: 1) Yes the hell a sitting president can be indicted if he breaks the law. He’s not a king. That’s simply not been the practice b/c 2) Congress is supposed to be holding impeachment hearings in a situation like this but 3) they refuse to do so b/c reasons listed above

They also r not opposed to 45’s racist agenda. That’s y Sessions is willing to endure constant humiliation from 45 if it means he can persecute immigrants. That’s y Congress is willing 2 throw democratic norms & rule of law out window if they can get ultra-conservative judge 7/

Nixon resigned & Clinton was impeached w/o it being threat to white power structure or ideology of white supremacy. By contrast, 45 is most prominent icon of modern white supremacist mvmt & folks in Congress (esp. GOP) are terrified of igniting his base of white voters 6/

To impeach this president would be to delegitimize the racist, misogynist movement he represents and to acknowledge that his political ascendancy is a product of illegal activity more so than the will of the masses. 5/

Again, if this were any prior prez, impeachment proceedings wld already be underway. We're at this juncture b/c 45 is new icon for white racial grievance. He rose to power pushing conspiracy theories that 1st black president was illegitimate, but 45 has never been legitimate 4/

And if that’s the case, then we don’t have a presidency but have returned to having a king. The king is the law and therefore by definition can not be in violation of the law. 3/

But to say a president who’s committed crime can’t be indicted under any circumstance— including a circumstance where the president’s party in Congress refuses to impeach him and in many ways aids his attempts to obstruct justice— is to say that the president is above the law. 2/

The historical practice of not indicting a sitting president is based on the assumption there's a functioning Congress willing to act in its role of applying checks and balances to executive power 1/
