We’re so proud of Youth Hear, which was founded by graduates of our Susan Wakil Fellowship. They’re doing important work to ensure that the Holocaust remains in our memories, and that we understand its gravity and its lessons.

This kind of material is appalling and has no place in any political campaign.

Tim Murray notes that the ABC has become 'ground zero' for political debate and that the ABC board selection has been atrocious. The Murdoch media has been a scourge on Australia and we need public media to combat this. He believes in restoring funding to the ABC.

In regards to the funding freeze, he doesn't believe it's unusual for freezes like this to occur. As a publicly funded organisation, we should expect it to have higher standards than it does currently, and it should be open to criticism.

Dave Sharma notes that a free press is the best guarantee to free and open speech. He believes that a public broadcaster may have an important role to play in this, but we should focus our investment elsewhere.

The ABC is not only the face of Australia but also a face for Australia to the rest of the world. We need to look very carefully at the process for selection of the ABC board and that this process needs to be independent.

Kerryn Phelps says that this situation is about having an independent broadcaster, free of political influence. There should be free and balanced journalism. As member of parliament, we should work to ensure that its funding is restored.

Dave Sharma believes we need to have a balance between commodities and services. He believes that we need to work harder to attract multi-nationals to come to Australia and hire the skilled workers we have here.

Tim Murray points out that the economy is changing. Our economy currently is incredibly export heavy, commodities heavy and we need to shift towards a more service based economy.

Dave Sharma notes that low rates of unemployment is helping hugely in this area. Where the government can best help is in facilitating macro economies and ensuring that there are jobs available for everyone.
