Yuppp. I used to think “sole authority” with nukes could survive anyone if it survived Nixon. This is our new test case.

It’s less about the substance and optics, as bad as they are. I can’t get over the fact that he seems to have concocted an entire fake exchange involving Modi. It is quite literally insane.

Thanks both! Tanvi, I’m more pessimistic only because this isn’t, as you point out, an isolated incident. At some point we can’t keep excusing this, and the dam will break. It’s the cumulative effect that is a problem, and this is was a doozy.

Do either or (or anyone else) have theories on this?

It was 1000 percent a lie. One that Trump had to know he would be called out on by GoI. So vexing question: why did he do it? Either he can’t help himself (scary) or he’s trying to leverage up Delhi (hang on to your hats).

Our latest report about the remark on that brought swift and firm denials from New Delhi that asked for US mediation.

The deck/sail modifications and specific censorship leave little doubt that has revealed a second ballistic missile submarine (SSB) design

This trip was a HUGE win for Imran Khan and Pakistan. For now at least.

Who says joint US-ROK exercises are aimed only at North Korea?

The official KCNA announcement of North Korea’s new submarine highlighted its imminent deployment and is littered with the term “strategic”. Based on that saddle size, it takes little imagination to think that means one thing and one thing only: nuclear weapons.

What do these pics signal? As always, multiple audiences. But to the US: this is what we mean by denuclearization Donald. ICBMs were for responsiveness and range, SLBMs are for survivability. A real nuclear weapons state.
