A guide to the best restaurants in Orlando for any dining occasion

The Eater 38 presents a curated list of Orlando’s most essential restaurants spanning diverse cuisines and neighborhoods. More importantly, it answers the oft-heard question “Can you recommend a restaurant?” The following restaurants (organized in geographical order) are reflective of the best Orlando has to offer — legacy establishments with loyal followings, chef-run boîtes and bistros, and restaurants that lend the city’s dining landscape some distinction.

Every six months, this list is re-evaluated by adding and dropping restaurants to ensure the map is current (Eater 38 venues have to be open for at least six months to merit inclusion). Removal from the Eater 38 doesn’t mean a restaurant isn’t worthy and won’t return in the future.

Below Deck Chef Opens New Pizza and Hoagie Shop in the Design District

Peppi’s Pizza debuts in the upscale neighborhood

Peppi’s Pizza debuts today in the Design District. It will serve New York-style pies and Philadelphia-inspired sandwiches from chef Ryan McKeown, who many might recognize from his stint on Below Deck Down Under. The restaurant will take over the former Old Greg’s location and will operate as a casual lunch counter by day before transforming into full-service dining at night.

During the day (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.), Peppi’s focuses on pizza by the slice and hoagies served on house-baked bread. The pizza dough undergoes a 72-hour fermentation process that McKeown says creates a “sourdough-esque” twist on the classic New York style, topped with Grande cheese and what he promises will be “immaculate” sauce. Pizza options include a classic red pie with mozzarella, pecorino, and Sicilian oregano, a white pie with garlic and herb cream, and specialty pies like the “upside down” with sauce on top. The sandwich menu features classics like a cheesesteak with Cooper sharp American cheese and an Italian loaded with provolone.

The 5 p.m. dinner shift brings table service and a fuller menu that riffs on Italian dishes. Think “fish and chips” reimagined as potato chips blanketed in caramelized onion dip and caviar, croquettes with prosciutto and pork, and clams casino. Pasta options include one McKeown claims will “out-step Carbone’s spicy rigatoni any day,” and Abruzzese-style barbecue featuring choices like a skewer of filet or chicken served with hot cherry peppers and grilled bread. The drink menu leans into spritzes, including a collaboration with Aperol, natural wines, amaro-based cocktails, and La Colombe offerings, including draft cold brew, espresso, and affogato with soft serve.

The former Old Greg’s space now sports work from Miami artists Adrian Lorenzo and Eddie Gaglin, plus neon signage McKeown hopes will signal a more accessible vibe in the otherwise upscale neighborhood.

“I want to give the locals a place they can come back to two or three times a week,” said McKeown. “We’re in a period where vibe dining is out. People don’t want it anymore.”

Peppi’s Pizza is now open in the Miami Design District at 3620 NE 2nd Avenue. Operating hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch counter service and 5 p.m. to close for full-service dinner, daily. Delivery will be available through Slice for pizzas and sandwiches only.

This New Wynwood Pizzeria Ships Its Dough Straight From Italy

Fradiavolo food spread. | Fradiavolo.

Award-winning Italian chain Fradiavolo brings its Naples-style pizzas to Miami.

A widely celebrated Italian pizza chain has landed in Miami. Fradiavolo, ranked among the world’s top pizzerias by 50 Top Pizza, opened its first U.S. location in Wynwood late last month. It brings the neighborhood Neapolitan-style pies made with dough shipped directly from Italy.

The Miami outpost marks the 33rd location for the brand and its first location outside Italy. “We spent years perfecting our dough in Italy, and now we’re bringing that same exact recipe to Miami,” said Dan C. Lopes Cardozo, managing partner of Fradiavolo Wynwood. “Our customers will taste the same pizza here that they’d find in our locations across Italy.”

The restaurant offers three types of dough: a traditional Neapolitan-style classic dough, a multigrain version with wholemeal flour and mixed grains, and a carbon dough infused with vegetable charcoal, available exclusively at the Miami location. Each batch arrives fresh from Italy, where it’s made using “mineral-rich water” and Italian flour without additives. Beyond the dough, Fradiavolo sources its ingredients from Southern Italy, including tomatoes and cheeses certified by the Slow Food Association.

The menu spans traditional and contemporary Neapolitan pizzas, with options like the margherita with Lattari Mountains fiordilatte cheese, the truffle-forward Paradise Truffle topped with porcini mushrooms and truffle carpaccio, and the Mortazza Tua featuring pistachio mortadella and burrata. Starters include bruschetta variations and a tagliere board loaded with cured meats, while salads come served on house-made focaccia. For dessert, the kitchen offers classics like tiramisu and a Nutella pizza.

Inside the Wynwood space, vintage furniture imported from Italy with shelves of books, records, and decorative bikes, creating a casual atmosphere that matches the restaurant’s playful “Eat Pizza. Make Love” tagline—a selection of Italian craft beers and Fradiavolo’s private label wines round out the dining experience.

Fradiavolo is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. at 2501 NW 2nd Avenue in Wynwood.

The space itself strikes an ideal balance between old-school steakhouse glamor and contemporary Miami cool, with its banyan tree-centered courtyard, rough-plastered walls, and glittering Murano glass chandeliers. The bar program, featuring Jaguar Sun classics like the Green Ghoul and interesting new creations, proves the restaurant is firing on all cylinders. The menu shines across three categories: the negroni (featuring a housemade MI-TO blend), creative martini variations like the affogato martini with pistachio gelato, and unique cocktails that bridge Italian tradition with tropical flair. The 60-seat space matches the sophisticated drinks with emerald green tiles, slate walls, and bronze palm frond sconces. The food, overseen by Carey Hynes and Justin Flit, upgrades the experience beyond drinks with standouts like neo-Neapolitan pizzas and a thoughtful raw bar selection. It’s a bar proving Miami’s cocktail scene has (finally) come of age.

Gramps Getaway: Best Waterfront Dining

While the name suggests another outpost of Wynwood’s popular bar, Gramps Getaway has carved its own identity along Key Biscayne’s waterfront. Nestled in the Rickenbacker Marina with views of Brickell, this tiki-inspired, thatched-roof oasis is more than just a bar with a scenic backdrop. Here, chef James McNeal, formerly of Eater Award-winning Over Under, reinvents typical waterfront fare. The playful yet refined menu features dishes like Florida corn esquites with cotija cheese, kombu-cured salmon paired with aji dulce relish, and a charred broccoli salad coated in buttermilk ranch that gives veggies their moment in the sun. Plus, cocktails are well-crafted and reasonably priced, making Gramps Getaway a rare Miami spot where both the food and drinks meet expectations without the typical waterfront markup.

Elastika: Most Beautiful Restaurant

Miami has an abundance of photo-ready restaurants, but Elastika stands apart for its location inside the historic Moore Building in the Miami Design District. The restaurant’s centerpiece is Zaha Hadid’s dramatic sculpture — a web-like structure commissioned for Design Miami’s 2005 debut — which stretches across a light-filled four-story atrium. The space thoughtfully mixes old and new, with neoclassical architecture complementing Brazilian wood furniture, velvet banquettes, and contemporary art curated by Monica Kalpakian. Chef Joe Anthony’s seasonal American menu, featuring dishes like citrus-cured kingfish crudo and bison tartare, ensures the food lives up to its striking surroundings. It’s a restaurant where smart design elevates, rather than upstages, the dining experience.

Chef Ryan Ratino, who helms two-Michelin-starred restaurants in D.C. ( Jônt and Bresca), brings the kind of high-end tasting menu experience ($225 per person) to the area previously found only in neighboring Miami. The kitchen excels at both delicate small bites like foie gras macarons and refined dishes like the 72-hour short rib, while the bar program impresses with cocktails enthusiastically prepared table side like the Aurora, which blends Mijenta blanco tequila and Illegal mezcal with coconut, raspberry, and chocolate bitters. Though the price certainly makes this more of a special occasion destination, in a county where fine dining options are limited, Maass finally gives Broward a restaurant that not only competes with Miami’s best but makes the drive north essential for serious food lovers.

Where To Dine For Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Miami

Eat, drink, and be merry.

Christmas in Miami is like winning the holiday lottery: festive spirit abounds, palm trees sway gently in the warm evening breeze, and there’s no chance of having to shovel a path to the car after a snowstorm. For those wanting to have no worries, delegating the job of preparing Christmas Eve dinner to a restaurant is smart. The most challenging task is choosing which of the many worthy restaurants to celebrate in. As with any major holiday, reservations are highly recommended.
