The important things to consider, in my opinion, are practicality and character. Perhaps some writer’s methods involve outlining and writing in-depth backstories to characters, their motivations, histories, and desires. My own personal approach is generally much more improvisational, but the truth remains that each and every story crafted has its own demands: of plot, character, themes, and motifs, plus the underlying structure of words, paragraphs, grammar, and even punctuation. Voice is the opportunity to tune the orchestra, moments before the start of the symphony.
