In the aftermath of World War II, a writer forms an unexpected bond with the residents of Guernsey Island when she decides to write a book about their experiences during the war.
The scenes for Weymouth docks were filmed on the quayside outside the 'M Shed' on Bristol's harbour side. You can see that the railway trucks (obsurcing the modern glassed frontage of the museum) have Avonmouth Docks written on some of them. These docks are at the mouth of the Avon about 4 miles down river from Bristol.

The Guernsey literary and potato-peel pie society. Crikey, that's quite a mouthful.
Early in the movie, German Wehrmacht (Army) soldiers are operating a truck with a swastika emblem on the door. Guernsey was occupied by regular Wehrmacht troops (319 Infantry Division), so vehicles would have been emblazoned with the Iron Cross. The swastika markings were mainly used by Waffen SS units, which were not posted on the Channel Islands during occupation.
During the end titles we hear bits of presentations at the society gatherings.
