Department of Urology
At Long Island Jewish Medical Center, we care for all urologic conditions, with a strong focus on surgical treatment of urologic cancers. As a robotic Center of Excellence, our surgeons are highly trained in many procedures that offer a faster recovery, minimal scarring and better outcomes—because your well-being and quality of life are important to us.
For patients facing a potential prostate cancer diagnosis, our urologists developed a streamlined process to help get you the answers you need as efficiently as possible—it’s called the Rapid Diagnostic Pathway (RDP). It includes faster access to specialists, same- or next-day appointments and faster answers and treatment—and that means less anxiety for you.
Always at the forefront of innovation, we also offer a world-class program for focal ablation, as some patients may be candidates for an even less invasive option to treat some prostate and kidney cancers. Ablation destroys the cancer with targeted precision, leaving surrounding tissue unaffected. If you have prostate or kidney cancer, you may be a candidate for this highly effective treatment or enrollment in one of our clinical trials—because we stop at nothing to find the right treatment for you.
Conditions we treat
- Urologic cancers: prostate, bladder, kidney, testis and adrenal

- Male infertility (including low and zero sperm count, low semen volume, varicocele)
- Obstructions of the urinary tract—ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstructions or urethral strictures
- Pelvic pain disorders
- Urinary stone disease
What sets us apart
Prostate Collaborative Care Program: Through this program, you’ll meet with both a urologist and radiation oncologist during your first prostate cancer treatment—because two evaluations, and opinions, are better than one.
Rapid Diagnostic Pathway (RDP): This program ensures same- or next-day specialist appointments, seamless access to specialized care and a clearer, faster path to an accurate diagnosis.
Transperineal fusion prostate biopsy: As early adopters, our team is the most experienced in New York with this novel biopsy technique—which not all hospitals offer. Providing unmatched levels of precision, it has nearly eliminated the risk of infection associated with the traditional transrectal biopsies.
We helped Larry get a clear diagnosis, expedited treatment—and back on his motorcycle sooner than he thought.
After successful treatment for kidney cancer, Andrew is on top of the world.
Michael is cancer-free and living a full life after a minimally invasive robotic procedure.
Long Island Jewish Medical Center was nationally recognized in nine specialties including urology on U.S. News & World Report’s 2024-25 Best Hospital rankings.
We work hard to reduce downtime, scarring and complications after surgery—and it’s earned us a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery distinction by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC).
