Even though I have seen more movies directed by Woody Allen than any other director, except Alfred Hitchcock, to be honest, it has been at least a decade since the guy delivered something that really impressed me. Since this movie is considered as one of his best movies, I had some high expectations and I was really eager to check it out. Well, even though I did like it, to be honest, I was still not really blown away by the damned thing, even if it was miles better than his recent output. Basically, this time around, Allen went for 2 different stories which were both linked to adultery. The first story with Martin Landau was obviously heavily inspired by ‘Crimes and Punishment’ while the second story was just another tale about Woody Allen feeling miserable in his marriage and trying to cheat on his wife. As you can guess, it didn’t care much about the second tale and they could have dropped it as far as I was concerned. Concerning the part involving Landau, even though it was intriguing, it still felt too predictable to me. Eventually, what made this movie really worked was its surprisingly bleak ending. I have to admit that I didn’t get it while I was watching this movie but, later on, I understood that the whole thing was basically about the idea that there is actually no God or if there is a God, what’s the point in believing in him since people can get away with such terrible acts? It was an intriguing idea but it was maybe too subtle for me. Anyway, to conclude, even if it didn’t really blow me away, it was still pretty good and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Woody Allen’s work.

To be honest, I didn’t expect much from this flick but since my wife really liked the 1^st instalment and since this movie was available on Netflix, I thought we might as well check it out together. Well, I have to admit that I was actually positively surprised by this sequel and it worked better than it predecessors in my opinion. The main issue with ‘Soof’ was that, in spite of the fact that the concept was actually pretty good and Lies Visschedijk was just so charming and charismatic, the damned thing was unfortunately so poorly written.  With this movie, it really worked better. Indeed, the biggest improvement was that they managed to get the tone right this time, smoothly switching between light comedy and light drama. Furthermore, the makers stopped to shamelessly copy some other romantic-comedies and, this time around, it felt more like something original than just another copycat. Eventually, the only things preventing this movie from really convincing me was the fact that it was still too random and, yet in spite of its randomness, the damned thing was still too predictable as well. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, it was still a decent watch and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

To be honest, before watching this sequel, I have to admit that I didn't remember much Insidious', except that, at the time, I thought that it was not bad but still rather overrated. So, it was already something fun to do while watching this 2nd installment, to figure out what the hell already happened the first time around. Still, even though sequels in the horror genre tend to be usually underwhelming, I was actually positively surprised by this one which was at least as good as its predecessor was, if not slightly better. I don't know, maybe it might have helped that it didn't have some really high expectations with this movie but it did work for me. I was above all rather impressed by Patrick Wilson who was really convincingly switching between a loving father and a creepy psychopath. Eventually, you might wonder why I didn't give this movie a higher rating since I was actually positively surprised by the damned thing. Basically, to be honest, even though it is inherent to the genre, the story was still ather far-fetched and silly and something more realistic and focusing more on the psychological side of things would be actually more interesting in my opinion. Anyway, to conclude, it still turned out to be a decent sequel and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like genre.

I don’t really remember why but I was actually really eager to watch this movie for quite some time. I guess it was probably because it had some really solid ratings and/or because there was a stellar cast involved. To be honest, I have to admit that I always had a hard time to get into these movies adapting William Shakespeare’s plays and keeping the original text. I mean, the language is awesome but it gets rather tiresome, especially in this case as I saw this movie in English with some Dutch subtitles (French is actually my mother tongue). Still, this movie is usually considered as one of the best Shakespeare adaptations and there was indeed many things to enjoy here. For example, it was pretty neat that they set the action in some alternative fascist version of England in the 30’s. Furthermore, as mentioned above, the cast was pretty impressive and they all delivered some really solid performances, especially Ian [Link removed - login to see][Link removed - login to see][Link removed - login to see]in the title role. For McKellen, this movie was a labor of love as he also wrote and produced the damned thing but it was really worth it and he was rightfully really proud of the end-result. To conclude, even though it didn’t really blow me away, it was still a solid adaptation and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
