After a fire which killed his father and scarred his sister, a guilt-ridden victim of psychosomatic blindness is released from a mental hospital and goes back home to stay with his estranged sister. However, it appears that someone is out for revenge and wants to drive him crazy. Written by alfiehitchie
"How Awful About Allan" was one of the first made-for-TV movies to be aired. More than forty years later, it remains a pretty good thriller. Now I have to admit that I have seen my share of thrillers over the years, so when we in the audience in the final few minutes of the movie are given the explanation as to what is actually going on - and why - well, I have to admit that I wasn't really surprised. I'm sure most modern day viewers will more or less guess what's happening before the "surprise" revelation. Still, the movie is a fairly entertaining way to pass seventy-three minutes. The acting is good (Perkins shows few other actors could play disturbed people as well as he could), and with the short running time there is seldom a moment that drags. It's worth a search, and the search should be easy since the movie has apparently come into the public domain and is available on a number of budget DVDs.
