This is a fine British film dealing with the Hanoverian plot to take over the English crown, placing George I on the throne. Fine acting from all concerned. Originally titled SARABAND. Joan Greenwood as the discarded queen who seeks solace in the arms of a young guardsman (Stewart Granger) is exceptional but the acting trophy goes to Flora Robson who should have netted a Supporting Actress Oscar nom for her finely shaded performance as a ruthless, yet utterly human court intriguer. The extremely lavish Art Direction was nominated for an Oscar but the Costumes deserved equal recognition, though they were not honored. Very intriguing and interesting film- worth a look.
