The Big Game Spot For Transformers: The Last Knight Is Here

3 February 2017 11:28 AM, PST

Paramount Pictures has released the Superbowl TV for Transformers: The Last Knight, opening in theaters June 23.

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Jerrod Carmichael, Isabela Moner and Santiago Cabrera, read director Michael Bay’s letter to the fans: http://www.michaelbay.com/2017/02/02/only-one-world-will-survive-theirs-or-ours/

The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).

There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. »

The Space Between Us Soundtrack Available Now

3 February 2017 8:17 AM, PST

Sony Music Masterworks has released The Space Between Us – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and physically on CD. The album will also release on vinyl at a later date. The album features original songs by Ingrid Michaelson and the movie’s original score by Andrew Lockington (San Andreas, Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters).

The score was comprised of orchestral elements and salvaged items from junk yards to create unique sounds catered to the film’s story. This process of “upcycling” was in line with the film’s message about celebrating the beauty of our planet.

“I loved working with Peter [Chelsom, the director] and Richard [Lewis, producer]. They had a real vision as to what they wanted but also allowed me lots of freedom within that vision. It was a lot of fun to be a part of the movie from such an early stage,” remarks Ingrid Michaelson.

Order on Amazon Here.

The album is now streaming on Spotify. »

The Space Between Us – Review

3 February 2017 6:27 AM, PST

Young teen girls who believe in sticky-sweet miracles may have an easy time sitting through the poorly-written and relentlessly mawkish The Space Between Us, but for many it will be hard to overlook the combination of cloying sentimentality and gaping plot holes. In 2018 astronaut Sarah Elliot (Janet Montgomery) departs on a mission to Mars overseen by wealthy scientist Nathaniel Shepherd (Gary Oldman) before she realizes she is pregnant (oops!). Shortly after landing on the Red Planet, she dies from complications related to childbirth. Her son Gardner (Asa Butterfield) thus grows up on Mars, reaching the age of 16 only having known only a handful of people in this space colony including Kendra (Carla Gugino), a scientist who looks after him and Centaur, a robot. Using the technology available, Gardner has connected via the internet with a sassy high school girl back on Earth named Tulsa (Britt Robertson) who lives with her »

I Am Not Your Negro – Review

3 February 2017 4:15 AM, PST

Despite its awkward title, director Raoul Peck’s documentary I Am Not Your Negro is a surprisingly timely film, even though it’s focus, author James Baldwin, died nearly 30 years ago. The film is an Oscar nominee in the documentary category, and a strong contender to win.

This is an astounding film – engrossing, even entertaining, visually inventive and beautifully constructed, all in a spare 93 minutes. Throughout the film, Baldwin comes across as a man of great intellectual prowess, dignity and warm humanity. It is startling how much of Baldwin’s Civil Rights era social commentary still applies today. The title comes from something Baldwin says in an interview, heard near the film’s end, and is a sort of weary request to be taken as himself, »

The Comedian – Review

2 February 2017 11:42 PM, PST

Nearly 35 years ago DeNiro truly stunned film fans (yes, he could do that back then) when they learned of his next big screen collaboration with Martin Scorsese. It was crazy enough that the duo would follow the brutal one-two punch of Mean Streets and Taxi Driver with a glossy homage to big splashy MGM-style movie musicals, New York, New York, but this? They seemed to be back in their comfort zone with the classic Raging Bull, when they made another big detour. A look at comedy, namely a portrait of a failed stand-up comic (he’d be dubbed a “hack” today) named Rupert Pupkin. 1982’s The King Of Comedy even co-starred the iconic Jerry Lewis, who often claimed that royal title. The film was then considered a box office flop, but the years have been most kind to it (in stand-up parlance, maybe it was “too hip for the room”). Now, »
