We had a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon; the main dining area was roughly half full ... I am a perennial skeptic of "schtick" establishments with their costumed waitstaff, but Hofbrauhaus Pittsburgh proved my skepticism totally unfounded and inappropriate. The service was superlative - our server, Madeline, was exceptional ... always a big smile, attentive but not obtrusive, exuded "hospitality." The food was served hot - not warm, not medium hot, but freshly cooked "I didn't have to serve the kids first 'hot.'" And, above all, the food was VERY flavorful. My wife had the potato cheese soup (as good as her homemade imo), I had the bratwurst accompanying which, thanks to Maddie's attentiveness and suggestion, I substituted hot German potato salad and broccoli for the standard sides (sauerkraut & mashed potatoes) ... the hot German potato salad was the best I can recall ever having in my 62 years and if you have an issue with broccoli drizzled with biercheese, then you won't understand how tasty mine was. We shared the biercheese fries with bacon - !!!! As we were leaving, my wife even sought out the General Manager, Tony, to heap praise on his operation. We've each managed sizable groups in our careers, and my brother, whose career has spanned every facet of food & beverage, has schooled me on the myriad of moving pieces required to make a restaurant "work," let alone work exceptionally with high volume ... we appreciate that organizations reflect leadership, and they too often never hear how highly the group they've assembled, trained and are leading actually perform in the eyes of the customer. He proceeded to introduce us to his biermeister, his kitchen management and his bar manager. This place has it going on!
