"I don't believe I'd really want to be a sensible person, because they are so unromantic."
A series of letters.
Dear Jo (aged 11), Get off The Sims and pick up a copy of Anne of Green Gables and read it now. It will change your life. Best wishes,...

YES. Man I am such a stalker this week. Can you blame me? You keep picking up all my favorite books! Just wait until you see what I'm starting today though. Dun dun dun!
I am excited to meet Gilbert. Is he a Bringer of the Swoon or is he more 'I want to go on adventures with him and then kiss him passionately in a field and/or a barn?

No, in this book he's a young, immature, but sweet kid. Definitely not too heavy on the swoon...this first book isn't really about romance.
But you'll get to meet Diana!! Oh, I just want to toss this book I'm currently reading aside and go get Anne. My copy is so battered it's almost falling apart.

"Have you ever noticed what cheerful things brooks are? They're always laughing. Even in the wintertime I've heard them under the ice."
Sigh. *looks around*
*crawls into book*
Much better. :)

I love Anne. And I love how LM Montgomery celebrates her oddities and dramatic flair, but also makes fun of her for it sometimes.

JoFIRST GILBERT BLYTHE MENTION. *sounds the conch shell*
"aw'fly handsome" eh? "I've heard him say he studied the multiplication by her freckles" LOL... he'd be able to learn bloody long division off mine.
Listen, Gil. I've been singing your praises for months and months (nay, YEARS) and I have a lot riding on this first impression with my friend Jo here. So please, please, just don't do anything rash. Keep your temper in check. No name calling. Seriously.
LOL.
Just FYI, in a recent interview, Melina Marchetta said that she uses the first Anne/Gilbert interaction scene as an inspiration for a scene in almost every one of her books. Get ready!
LOVELOVELOVELOVE. Although... he's mean. But LOVELOVELOVE.
"As for Gilbert Blythe, she would not even look at him. She would never look at him again! She would never speak to him again!"
Hm. Won't you, Anne? WON'T YOU?!
Oh and he's 14... which isn't much better. *waits patiently until he becomes 19+*

AH, poor Gil. He'll be paying for that little mistake for years.
I feel like this romance (and P&P probably) has been the basis for so many copycat romances since it was printed. No one can ever match up to the original.

The whole guy and girl get off on the wrong foot but eventually fall for each other?
Yes. Ms Austen has a lot to answer for that. (view spoiler)[I reeeeeally don't like P&P. But don't tell anyone. (hide spoiler)]
Hahaha ohhh, she just crushed his heart. Literally... and figuratively.
Man, I need to sort my body clock out. Or stop reading books that keep me up past my bed time.

It's me. I've been sending psychic waves over to reconfigure your brain to Eastern Standard Time. Who's got psychic powers now?
Yes, I've seen you mention your dirty little secret before. Weirdo. It's a valid opinion.
Haha, I love that part with the heart.

I really want some love hearts now. Yes. FOR BREAKFAST. I went on a school trip to a building site (not kidding) once and my friend and I did about two rolls of them each. We were practically foaming at the mouth when they got the hard hats out.
Haha... I just don't like it. But I'm not an angry hater. Partly because I would get stabbed if I voiced my opinion too loudly. My best friend is possibly the biggest JA fan in the entire world and her P&P mug remained intact for the whole 3 years I lived with her. :)
And actually a notecard that she sent me with Mr Darcy on is stuck on my wardrobe. So I'm not a complete demon.

I am just going to pretend that I didn't plan a readalong in full view of everyone on goodreads, so that I can assume you have psychic powers.

You've now been initiated into the GB appreciators society.
You are appreciating him, right? RIGHT?!

But yes. I am.
Not in the way you appreciate him... because he is still eleven or so here.
But I'm thinking time will change that..
