It has recently been claimed that 130,000 preventable deaths are linked to austerity.

The think tank that produced that number said the deaths may be partly linked to public service spending reductions, but that wider policies were also important.

A think tank estimated that 130,000 deaths due to preventable risk factors wouldn’t have occurred if pre-2012 trends had continued between 2012 and 2017.

In his campaign launch speech, Conservative party leadership candidate Matt Hancock said that 1 in 3 people aged 30 will live to 100.

This looks like an overestimate.

The ONS estimated in 2017 that 1 in 6 women and 1 in 8 UK men aged 30 will reach 100.
