Report: Schulz to give up German chancellor bid

Outgoing European Parliament chief Martin Schulz has rowed back on a reported plan to run for German chancellor, according to the Spiegel. The magazine says Schulz will not stand against Sigmar Gabriel, chairman of the Social Democratic Party, who has still not said what he intends to do. Schulz is due to run for a seat in the German parliament for the social democrats in next year's elections.
