Just spent the HHD with P'nai Or and it was great! I love the way that they combine a passion for social justice and change with a depth of spirit and amazing acceptance of all who come to worship wit...h them.

After visiting them a while ago I brought a friend to experience the community. He said he'd never felt more welcomed at a place in his life.

So if great teaching and music is something you're looking for P'nai Or provides it as well as a true sense of community.

P'nai Or of Portland hosted Shoshanna Nambi from Uganda and Lorne Mallin from Vancouver, B.C. for an Abayudaya Shabbaton this past weekend. Shoshanna read from torah, shared in her lovely voice many ...Abayudaya melodies, Lorne shared his chanting expertise. Shoshanna spoke about the role of women in the Abayudaya "People of Judah" Jewish community in Uganda at two talks in Portland, one at PSU and the second at P'nai Or of Portland, Oregon. She spoke of her own life, of the women she most admires in her community and about how women's roles are changing as they receive more education and take on different leadership roles in daily life as well as in the life of the synagogue. She also spoke in Corvallis, Eugene and Seattle. The P'nai Or community was welcoming and supportive, giving her gifts to take home both for herself and others in her community. Two years ago P'nai Or welcomed the Headmaster of Hadassah Primary School, Aaron Kintu Moses. They are sending an invitation to Moses Synagogue to become a Sister Synagogue with P'nai Or and individual members are providing financial support for students from primary school to University. Such positive connections enrich the lives of both community members and those so far away and bring us closer together as a Jewish people who live all over the globe. See more

For someone that has an ephemeral spiritual base and initially felt minor trepidation ("am I worthy?") entering such a holy environment from a friend, I have felt love and very welcomed by this temple..., on numerous occasions. This was brought about by Julian Rose and Rabbi Aryeh Hirschfield (he is missed). See more

Sukkot and Oneg Shabbat in the P’nai Or Community Sukkah at Gesher, hosted by the Tikkun Olam committee in our Sukkat Shalom v'Tzedek (Sukkah of Peace and Justice). We shared a potluck, stories, song, and dance in connection with the goals of our new Tzedakah partner 350PDX and raised awareness for resistance to the North Dakota Access Pipeline. We welcomed our guests Philip Kalary and his family. Phillip is Portland Indian who told us about his experiences at the Standing Rock encampment in North Dakota. We also welcomed musician and dancer Luciana Proano who brought her friends to accompany her on her inspiring songs.
