A minidisc looks like a small optical disc, in a permanent plastic case approximately the size of a cassette tape.

Minidisc was briefly expected to be the next big distribution format for music and audio, but was discontinued in 2013.

Minidisc was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010.
