About

The Boston College Libraries Digital Scholarship Group connects people, ideas, and projects.

We explore and document new tools and support teaching and research in a variety of areas that utilize broad methodologies in the digital humanities.

As we document our paths, clear logistical hurdles, and share our outcomes, we look forward to discovering ways of building on our existing projects.

Core Tenets

We Aim to Build Experience and Community
We explore, document, and share the pros and cons of using technology for different applications, noting important caveats and lessons learned, based on our experience with real projects -- we don't simply link you to the homepage of tools or completed projects.
We are Experimental
We are committed to exploring and documenting new tools and methods with you, expanding our capacity as we do. We don't limit our efforts to a specific set of supported technologies, but are interested in finding and addressing changing needs on campus. We act as a node in the growing community of digital scholarship.
We are Open
Digital scholarship should be an open endeavor. As we dabble and explore, we are transparent about our process whenever possible — including what we don't know, frustrations, and dead ends. We also support the use of open source tools and the creation of open access scholarship. See what we're up to on GitHub.
We Teach, Support, and Collaborate
We aspire to expand the community of digital scholarship practitioners at Boston College, not act as a home for outsourced digital projects. We are teachers, consultants, and collaborators. We are particularly invested in collaborative projects that include pedagogically-rich student involvement or that transcend individual semesters and the boundaries of the institution.
