'Consumer Machine' is the first single off of Big Brutus' new album, 'America Circa', released October 6th on Paper Garden Records. Sean Bryant (Big Brutus) wrote 'America Circa' while biking up the East Coast in the Spring of 2017 and raising money for the International Rescue Committee. The album strays from the familiar themes found on his previous albums - themes of love, loss, death, and pursuit of fulfillment - and, instead, calls out and dives into the racism, oppression, and political corruption rampant in America today. Big Brutus has written an important, self-aware album about what it means to live and love in this country, and calls the listener to address centuries of abuse.

    Lyrics:

    Stuck inside consumer machine
    Anywhere you drive you’ll be
Numbered and counted in little rows
    Red light/Green light.
You’re standing in the road saying let’s go.
    Stick me in consumer machine
    Drain my body
Leave me empty on the altar
    With stigmata hands
    Another citizen sacrifice in the
    Warming light of man.

But I pray oh God where are you now?
Buying up commercial spots on the other side of town
But I pray oh God where are you now?
Buying up commercial spots on the other side of town

My sleeves caught in the consumer machine
    Go blue at the collar
    Such a fitting irony
    Stop
I seem to have lost my page
The manuals to run this thing all go blank
    So order
    So order the consumer machine,
and for a limited time we’ll throw in dimes
for your eyes when you go to sleep.
    Anywhere you drive you’ll be
Standing in a pool of dirty gasoline

But I pray oh God where are you now?
Buying up commercial spots on the other side of town
But I pray oh God where are you now?
Buying up commercial spots on the other side of town

    Anywhere you drive you’ll be
    Anywhere you drive you’ll be
