Another seam complete – wow, one a week! LOL Linking with Monday Stitchery Link Party.
A (Snow) Man For All Seasons – FNSI
Also linking with Stitchery Link Party on Super Mom No Cape.
Yesterday, I completed the snowman stitching! Yay! To see what others did for Friday, click the button above.
I laid out what I thought was going to be my border. It needed something more. How about another, skinnier border next to the snowman?
I don’t think that’s right. What about a darker border?
Better, but …? What about a dark blue border?
Even better, but … Maybe it’s the floral that I’m not so crazy about. What about a different fabric?
Hmmm, not that one! What about a checkerboard border?
Yes. Yes, I think that’s it! Okay, now I have a direction. Yay!
FNSI
Time to link up for Friday Night Sew In! This Friday, January 20, has two important events in the US, and FNSI could be the one with top billing – on this blog, at least!
If you’d like to sign up, too, click on the logo below.
I’m going to work to finish my snowman!
A Snowman’s Heart Never Melts
Linking with Stitchery Linky on Super Mom No Cape.
I’ve been working on this project since the first of the year. I’m almost finished with the words and that’s all that’s left! I wanted to stitch something on linen, to get a feel for how it’s different from my usual cotton, see if I wanted to stitch on it more. It’s quite nice.
This linen was Kauffman Essex Linen Blend, 55% linen and 45% cotton. It’s considered a lightweight linen, but I don’t think I’d want to stitch on anything heavier. Last year’s CQJP, still in progress – very slowly – used only these linens for background, and I found that easy, too, but this is a little different kind of stitching. Overall, I’m pleased, and will probably order more when I run out of all the colors I ordered for the CQJP. It’s reasonably priced and, for stitcheries, a yard goes a long way!

I intended to do it all in the slate blue color, but then the orange nose snuck on. After that, the red lettering I’d traced looked so good, I couldn’t resist switching colors for the words … and then I thought the scarf needed to be plaid! Not so much of a bluework piece now.
The design was free on the internet, but I’m sorry to say I don’t remember where. I’ve had it quite a while – at least a year. If you recognize it as yours, or know to whom it should be credited, please let me know. I like to give credit, but the download had no identifying information on it. This is one reason I always say a designer should sign the actual pattern.
The Needle Still Works!
Stacey was mending places Josh’s quilt had come apart at the seams – on the fleece fabrics, only. So tip if you are sewing them with other fabrics, maybe use a stretch stitch! I sat and did some CQ while we chatted about life, the universe and everything. Here’s what I got done. All pics are clickable.
Seam 45 – beads to be added later:
Seam 46 – maybe finished, maybe not:
I’ve started Seam 47, a vine, on top. It’s so nice to take some stitching time!
Never Ending Sampler by Pamela Kellogg
I am going to do Pam Kellogg’s band sampler, but more as my crazy quilting experience. Have you read about it? It’s no rules, and she’s calling it Neverending Sampler. I love the idea of doing the bands, and haven’t had time in the past. Perhaps this will fill my need for cq during this coming year when I’m no longer doing the CQJP. Five years, five unfinished projects, so I’m hanging back for a while.

Anyway, it can be done anyway I want – Pam says no rules. So it might be put together at the end like Sharon Boggon’s example of a band sampler above. This is the first post explanation. She has two seams up this week. I’m already behind unless I decide to stitch them on my CQ block … which is still sitting with not one embellishment! According to the no rules, I can do that. But I really want a band sampler. Why? Because I’m getting dotty in my advanced years.
Veterans Day
It isn’t enough to offer veterans a free meal once a year, but if you are a veteran, IHOP, Applebee’s, Chili’s, and Dave’s Famous BBQ are 4 places I know offering meals at least part of the day. IHOP offers the longest hours, 7 am to 7 pm, and at Chili’s it’s only active and retired, not those who didn’t make it a career. I’d say take advantage of a free meal to enjoy on this once a year chance. As Paul used to say, it’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Thank you for your service and your sacrifices. Thanks to the families for all the hours and days and years you missed with loved service personnel. That, too, is a tremendous sacrifice.
Temporarily On Hold
I have to take a break from blogging for a while. I will post something once in a while, should there be anything that gets done. There are too many other things happening around here, and I need more time for things that aren’t nearly as much fun! This means I won’t be around to read blogs for a while, too. I will try to hit them in rotation, but I make no promises. I will be back ASAP, when things aren’t so crazy.
